8 0 ‘s M A K E U P | inspired by Stranger Things

Last Thursday evening I was invited to see ‘Stranger Things’ at the Secret Cinema in London with M.A.C Cosmetics [ part of a paid partnership ] and to attend a couple of Fashion Shows the following day as part of London Fashion Week.

I packed my bags, happy at the prospect of leaving Sheffield for a couple of days and heading down to the ‘big smoke’

London is always fun and I’ve become quite fond of the 2 hour train journey down where all I do is sit, drink coffee, munch on chocolate bars , contemplate life … and read.

Yes folks you heard correctly I am back reading ‘ Feel the Fear and do it anyway‘ … because I was doing all those things !

S E C R E T C I N E M A | stranger things

It’s immersive cinema and in all honesty I wasn’t sure what to expect? We weren’t told were it was. We were Just informed that a taxi would pick us up at the hotel and drop us off . A guide would meet us at the other end and take us across to the secret location. I was intrigued already!

As soon as I entered the ‘cinema’ it felt as though I had been transported back to Hawkins. To be exact 4th July , 1985. If you are not familiar with Stranger Things Hawkins is the town in which the series is set.

Your mobile phone and camera are confiscated as you enter the cinema so there are no photos or instagram moments from the night. It felt very bizarre but I guess it’s so it keeps it intriguing and doesn’t spoil it for anyone else.

It’s actually a grand idea; it makes you feel ‘in the moment‘ . As you are not stopping every few minutes to record something on your phone you can just enjoy the experience.

It really was like being back in 1985 when mobiles didn’t even exist !

Beauty | What’s in your makeup bag?

When Joanne from Opposable Thumbs recently did a blog post on what’s in her makeup bag she tagged a few of her fellow bloggers to join in. Of course I jumped at the the chance; nosy by name, nosy by nature. It’s something that fascinates me. What do ‘real’ people actually put on their faces?

How about you?

Do you want to see what’s in my makeup bag ?

Yes … great stuff please walk this way.

No … you have my permission to leave now

First up I just need to clarify I have loads of makeup in boxes scattered all around the bedroom. Tonnes of the bloody stuff. Drives the BF crazy.

I’ve not featured any eyeshadow palettes ; I apply eye shadow in the morning and leave the sets behind on my dressing room table. You can read all about my eye-makeup routine // HERE

I don’t wear foundation so there’s non of that featured either.

This is the [rather mucky …in need of a wash ] makeup bag I won. Yay go me. This is the one I carry around with me on a daily basis. This is the makeup I tend to wear most days; I use for touch ups when I’m out etc.

All these products have been bought by myself.

Beauty | First Impressions – Trinny London

Hello, hello, hello little people in my cyber space.

I’ve decided that this year along with the usual regulars like  ‘Ladies that Lunch’ I’m going to do a series called ‘First Impressions‘ which basically like the title suggests will be my first impressions of a product, person or a place.

Today’s, and my very first products are from Trinny London who I have been watching with interest from afar.

Firstly if you don’t follow Trinny on Instagram you are really missing a trick. Her quick fashion and beauty videos combined with her BIG personality are both informative and fun.

So a few months ago Trinny launched her capsule makeup collection. It’s basically all about ‘the stack’. A collection of products in 4g pots that snap together making it easy to carry around , especially when you are travelling.

You go online, undertake a colour match #Match2Me [ eye colour, skin tone etc] and then you are redirected to all the products in the shades that compliment you.

The full range includes:

BFF Cream, foundation , highlighter , contour, bronzer , mattifying balm, lip2cheek, blusher, lip gloss , lip colour and eyeshadow.

There is no face powder , eyebrow / eye pencils or mascara within the collection, so you would still need to purchase and carry these around with you.

I ordered the :

  • The Right Light – Starlight [Illuminator] – £25.00 4g pot
  • Lip Glow in Maddie – £16.00 4g pot

Beauty | It’s all in the Eyes …

If there’s one thing I get asked about A LOT over on Instagram stories and the blog … [ after are you sure your all there? ] is my eye makeup; my routine, what products I use etc.etc

So after the results of a little poll I conducted came back stating 90% of you would like to read about my eye makeup , I listened and here I am.

The 10% who didn’t want me to write about it you may as well leave now…

I started experimenting with eye-makeup when I was about 15 and since then have always played up my eyes. I love a smudgey dark brown verging on black eye. Lashings of mascara and black eyeliner in my water line which makes your eyes pop.

Don’t get me wrong , I’ve not always got it right. Hell no. There are photos of me sporting bright blue ‘spiky’ mascara and bushy ungroomed eyebrows. I also had a very dodgey perm. Not my best look.

Beauty | My favourite make up discovery of 2017 is . . .

I’d like to think that amongst all the products I tested last year there were a few stand out favourites. Products I would repurchase again and again.

I am lucky that as a fairly established blogger I get sent a lot of ‘goodies’ from brands / PR companies keen for me to review their goods. However being the skincare / make-up junkie I am I also tend to purchase A LOT myself .

I like to mess what can I say? Nothing excites me more than getting my mitts on a  product by a brand I’ve not encountered before.

My favourite discovery of 2017 is one I bought myself and only chanced upon at the beginning of December. It was a recommendation by the skin care guru Nadine Baggot . Not personally of course, on one of her You Tube videos.
