‘The Place’ to be seen…ladies that lunch

Today is date day, or rather ladies that lunch day.

I try to meet up with Sue every couple of weeks for a girlie catch up and to grab some nice grub!

Today’s choice of eatery – That Place  – was Sue’s suggestion. It’s somewhere I’ve not visited before.

It was most needed. I’ve had what can only be described as the ‘week from hell‘ and not the best start to 2016 …

My car broke down on Monday and was out of action for 3 whole days. Our heating consequently blew up at the same time, resulting in no heating or hot water for a couple of days. We have ripped the kitchen out to the bare bones and just have a very lonely looking Belfast sink.

We are currently living off the remnants of Christmas – crackers and cheese, pate, mince pies and Chinese take-away. I have mince pie belly.

I’m still finding bloody big slimy worms all over the house and one of the pesky cats was sick all over the new settee.

The icing on the cake – I pulled my chuffing back out, and I’m coming down with cold. My throat is scratchy and sore.

Yes… a girlie lunch was just what I needed – that or numerous bottles of alcohol. As my boyfriend kept telling me “your not nice if your not warm, have access to a hot bath and food”.

That Place is situated  at 845 Chesterfield Road,  Woodseats, Sheffield opposite the KFC. From the outside if I’m honest ,it doesn’t look up to much.

When you walk in however it’s a totally different story. Although fairly small it’s beautifully decorated with an amazing ‘book’ feature wall and union jack settee.

It’s a little hidden gem. Continue reading

Seeing the new year in Italian Style…

As with most posts, this one wasn’t planned.

Let’s just say some thing’s are just too good not to share; like my love of the films Spatacus and Jason and the Argonauts…I could recite them both to you, but I won’t. Not today anyway.

Plus I’m nice like that.

You may have  guessed by now that the Mr and I are pretty crap when it comes to planning anything. Remember ‘Tap-gate’ from a couple of weeks ago?

He calls me gonna…‘gonna do this, gonna do that’. We were planning to go away on New Years Eve for a few days but life happened. Basically we lost all sense of time , what day it was, what time it was even and it never got booked.

Dah.

Like I said  crap! Continue reading

It’s over…but a good time was had by all

Hello everyone.

Firstly, I hope you’ve had a fabulous Christmas. Secondly I hope you got everything you wished for. Be that in the form of a fabulous gift, or just to spend some quality time with your loved ones.

We’ve had a grand few days. I think I’ve come out of it half a stone heavier but very happy.

I must say I was thoroughly spoilt this year.  I’m a little sad it’s all over to be honest ; it goes far, far too quickly!

We had Christmas lunch booked at Marco’s –  Marco Pierre Whites restaurant. Mum has had a shitty year what with her health and one thing and another. We didn’t want her fannying around cooking and getting herself all stressed out. She had also mentioned herself that she didn’t want to cook lunch this year. The general consensus was if I cooked it would be one big disaster. No offence taken on my part… I have (shock horror) in my 45 years on this planet managed to avoid ever cooking Christmas lunch. I’m not sure how, but I have!

Cooking is not my thing, my house is tiny…what can I say I’m not your everyday domestic goddess. I’m far from it! (Hangs head in shame). It was in everybody’s best interest that we went out. They wanted to see Boxing Day didn’t they!?

Marco’s was booked for 2.15pm, which gave us plenty of time to have a few drinks in the local pub before hand. To see who else was also having Christmas drinks, wish them all the best, grab some cheeky kisses. I love that about Christmas…how happy and friendly everybody is.

Grandad has grown a moustache (I like it) and arrived suited and booted looking very smart. As always wearing a shirt and tie.

My brother kept joking about his new ‘porn tash’. Grandad laughed though I’m not really sure he knew what my brother was going on about? Maybe a blessing in disguise really… The image building in my head of my grandad starring in a dirty porn movie was not a pleasant one!

There were just the 6 of us – Mum, Dad, Mark my little brother, Mike my fella and my Grandad.

Grandad Reg is the youngest 93 year old you will ever meet… He’s off to Eastbourne today with a group of other fun-loving OAP’s for a 4-day break.

The meal was delicious.

I had beef. Yep, beef ( smothered in mountains of Horse raddish) There was no washing up. Mum was relaxed and sat smiling a lot. (always great to see)

We pulled crackers and pulled faces at the rubbish jokes! Grandad worked his porn tash and more-importantly he gave Mike the seal of approval. Phew. ( it’s the first time they’ve met) I got merry on Baileys with ice. We laughed a lot. A Perfect Christmas lunch – a really lovely afternoon.

Along with my Olympus PEN camera and my Clarisonic Aria (I warned you  I had been spoilt) another of my favourite presents is a book.

‘Love Style Life’ by Garance Dore is a fabulous read.

I can’t put it down!

It’s a book about style… In her own words ” Be warned: it’s going to be clumsy, imperfect, sometimes glamorous and mostly ( I hope!!!) hilarious ride”

I’m loving it. I’m hoping some of her impeccable style and wisdom will rub off on me!

Talking about style/clothing. I’ve got itchy feet to get out and purchase some new clothes. I’ve been a bit rubbish this year and not bought that much in way of new outfits. I HATE SALES I just can’t stand the thought of trying to park your car, battling through the crowds. Nightmare.

I never got the green sequin dress I had my heart set on. I ended up buying a burgundy dress from River Island, via Very. Its very plain and simple, no bling. I wore it on Christmas day…

Here’s a little run-down of my Christmas outfits, starting with:

Christmas Eve Drinks with the Girls:

Victorian Lace Blouse £28.00 from ASOS with my skinny jeans from Tu (Sainsbury’s) leopard skin jacket (my late Grandmas) and statement earrings from Black & Sigi

Christmas Day for Drinks and Lunch with the Family:

I’m trying to grow my fringe out and I cant decide whether to persevere or chop the bloody lot all off.  It looks mostly a ‘buggar’!!

Burgundy Pussy Bow dress by River Island (via Very) wearing my best Stepford Wife face!! (Not sure what’s going on there?)

Boxing Day- Yet more drinks with the Family:

I’m wearing a top from French Connection (OUTLET SHOP) , with my flares from River Island and sparkly shoes from Next. Mums wearing a dress from Wallis. Cheesy Smiles are courtesy of Brandy & Baileys (together) Lethal but oh so moreish.

All my outfits were a bit last minute.

The dress actually arrived Christmas Eve! A  bit too close for comfort for my liking.  Thankfully it fit and I loved it. Phew.

I am now on the look out for the perfect New Years Eve outfit. I have no idea where I am going , or what we are doing (it’s a surprise) which makes it a little tricky . Idea’s anyone?

The quest is on…

But first I can feel a Bailey’s coffee coming on. I’ll need to wean myself of this stuff come January (I swear its coming out of my pores) but until then… Cheers!

In my Home Town…#sheffield

I love my home town of Sheffield – The Steel City.

I suppose we are all a bit bias and have a BIG old soft spot for the place where we grew up, were our memories were made. I know my way around, I know where to go and I know where to avoid.

We have 2 football teams – Sheffield Wednesday (The Owls) and Sheffield United (the Blades) I’m an Owl in-case you were wondering. It’s also home to the oldest football club in the world – Sheffield Club.

Henderson’s Relish is made here (I have it on absolutely everything) The World Snooker Championships are held at the Crucible and we also have the wonderful Botanical Gardens with it’s original bear pit…

Arctic Monkeys, The Pulp, Joe Cocker, Human League, Sean Bean and Paul Carrick were all born and bred here.

Mary Queen of Scots was even imprisoned in Sheffield Castle in 1570 !!

Yes It is familiar…it is home.

So that kind of sets the scene…in a how Tracey’s mind works kinda way!

Fizz at Cavendish Restaurant, Chatsworth

Laurent- Perrier Afternoon  Tea at The Cavendish Restaurant, Chatsworth House – a Birthday treat from the Mr … he’s a  star and I’m very lucky.

He says he never known anybody my age get so giddy about Birthdays…I’m not sure what he’s getting at. I mean doesn’t everybody wake up at 5.30am on their birthday excited about the day ahead?

mmmmmm  yes usually the under 5 year olds!

I love my Afternoon Tea.

I love champagne.

I  love my mum … so it was the perfect way to spend the afternoon.

The Mr unfortunately had to work, so couldn’t make it, much to my disappointment. O.k so I was a-bit mardy…and I should know better. In my 45th year I really must think more about what my face does and what my mouth says!

On a positive note I could never lie to you…it would be written all over my face. Expressive my mum calls it. Rubbish I say.

So back to the afternoon tea – Cucumber and cream cheese finger sandwiches , scones with clotted cream and jam, Bakewell Cheesecake…plus 3 champagnes to taste… WHATS NOT TO LOVE?

Here’s a list of the full shebang.

(I’ve told you before I’m a little pig… this proves it. We devoured the lot!)

Kelham island delights…Urban 1/4

I’ve often quite fancied myself as a Carrie Bradshaw type figure … Only I’d be floating around Sheffield, double her size with not such an exciting wardrobe and nanny hair, rather than her beautiful mane. Yep I’m still growing and falling out with my hair on a daily basis.

I’ve grown particularly fond of Kelham Island, the place where my Mr resides. I could imagine Miss Bradshaw here. I like the ‘feel’ – urban, industrial, busy but with non of the hustle and bustle, if that makes any sense? You can’t get parked for love nor money, but I suppose that adds to the fun… Or ruins your day dependent on your mood. That woman driving up and down, hot, bothered and cursing… Yep that will be me.

We’ve been frequenting a lovely newish bar / diner – The Urban 1/4 which is a stones throw away from his apartment, on Alma Street.

Keeping with the overall feel of the area, it’s got an industrial feel to it. Open and airy, with exposed ceiling joists, brickwork and concrete floors. Big chunky Chesterfield settees added for comfort.
