I was lucky enough to be invited out for Afternoon Tea last Saturday. The venue, Harvey Nichols in Leeds.
I had been to their restaurant and bar a few times previously but never experienced their Afternoon Tea. My friend, Karen had reached the ripe old young age of 50 on New Year’s Eve and one of her pressies included a voucher for Champagne Afternoon Tea for two. She took me 🙂
I would definitely advise booking as it does get rather busy, especially on a Saturday afternoon, pay day week!
Once seated in the bar area, we were quickly served with our glasses of champagne, which were much needed after the previous couple of hours shopping. The Fourth Floor Cafe & Bar has a buzzing, cosmopolitan atmosphere and is a great people watching spot!
The main event arrived…we were not disappointed.
I have an allergy to seafood so asked them to kindly remove the Potted Shrimp – they replaced it with an extra Welsh Rarebit.
The Smoked Duck Sandwich…watch out for the mustard!!

We couldn’t wait to move on to the desserts…
I can’t begin to tell you how gorgeous the Caramel Profiterole was…neither of us wanted it to end.
The Coffee & Chocolate Gateaux had a kind of ‘brownie texture to it with a beautiful pastry base…
Basil, Lemon and Strawberry Possett – creamy, light and citrusy
And of course Scone, Jam and Cream
I can’t believe we actually ate it all. We definitely needed the coffees to wash it all down!
Not one of the cheapest afternoon teas but at £49.00 for two people, I’d have to say it is well worth the money and is an experience we will have to repeat. Every mouthful resulted in a groan of palatable pleasure from both of us.
An extra visit to the gym will be needed this week, I’m sure. Luckily I’d bought new jeans BEFORE the afternoon tea – I’m not sure I’d have fit in the fitting room, let alone the jeans after eating all that. I walked in and waddled out!
