What’s new Sheffield?

If you’re in the city at any point during the next few months I thought I’d share some places with you that are new [ish] on the Sheffield scene .

There’s something for everyone … the beauty obsessive , fashionista and the lush!

PUBLIC BAR

I first heard about this place after I was tipped off about it by a friend on Instagram. I popped across and started following them immediately . Their feed was all very cryptic and hush-hush.

I was intrigued.

Happens Public is situated in the old Gents public convenience [under the Town Hall] which was closed down around 4 years ago to save the council money. It has now been transformed into a sleepeasy style bar. Aptly named ‘Public’ in a nod to its past .I attended along with Louise [ Northern Interior Girl ] on the opening evening. It was heaving but Assistant Manager Jon just managed to squidge us in on a table with 2 other guys… who were obviously enjoying the drinks far too much. They were squiffy!

It’s tiny or should I say intimate; only seating 40. There’s booth seating with the original tiles in-situ [ bleached to within an inch of their life hopefully] . The lighting is subdued and music comes courtesy of vinyl playing on an old record player behind the bar.

It’s got a great vibe to it.

I’ve not even mentioned the amazing range of cocktails yet! It’s vast and it is A-mazing.

They even have a cocktail on tap. Genius.

Public – Surrey Street, Sheffield S1 2LG

Cocktail prices range from £5.00 [when purchased between 4-7pm] to £9.00

Food : Yes. Small taster plates to accompany the cocktails.

Opening Hours:

  • Mon – Fri 4pm -2am
  • Saturday 12pm -3am
  • Sunday 12pm – 2am

NEAL’S YARD REMEDIES

Opened in Meadowhall around 3 weeks ago. It is something us Sheffielders have been crying out for. Something, new sparkly and all about our wellness.

Founded in 1981, Neals Yard Remedies is a natural health and beauty pioneer. From small beginnings in Covent Garden , London they have now expanded across 25 countries … and now the dizzy heights of Meadowhall!

They use only natural and organic ingredients which are free from harmful chemicals. They do not test on animals.

I had the pleasure to be invited along last week with a bunch of other lovely bloggers. I can report back that’s it’s a gorgeous shop; as you enter the smell hits you and it’s just bloody delicious.

It’s a shop you could easily spend ages mooching around, testing out and sniffing all the beautiful products.

The staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

Lower Level, Park Lane, Meadowhall [ just up from Debenhams]

Treat yourself – A hand massage using the Orange & Bergamot Hand Lotion

Opening Hours : 10.00am until late between now & Christmas

BEER COCKTAILS at The Botanist

I devoted a whole blog post to these bad boys a couple of weeks which you can read // here

Basically until the end of the month The Botanist  are serving a limited edition cocktail , or rather hoptail using Budvar as the main ingredient. It’s called a ‘Budvar Mule’ and its rather nice.

Definitely worth popping in and sampling!

Any excuse eh?!

The Botanist, Leopold Square, Sheffield

Ask for : Budvar Mule

Cost: £7.95

JOE BROWNS

The quirky Ladies & Gents clothes shop has recently opened in Meadowhall and is a welcome addition amongst the other clothing outlets as it offers something a little different to the norm.

Admittedly the clothes won’t be to everybody’s taste but it is worth popping in to admire the beautiful interiors, artwork and unusual little bits and bobs.

I was invited to pop along to a bloggers event last week.

We were treated to canapes and fizz, a talk by the founder Simon Brown all about how he started the business and the inspiration behind the brand. [lovely man] Ending the evening with a fashion show which showcased current pieces and a few from S/S 2018.

Piggy below can be yours for £34.99. I seriously need this gold trotted god 🐷

Joe Browns Upper Level, High Street, Meadowhall [opposite Apple Store]

Great for : Quirky pieces you’ll not find anywhere else

Opening Hours: 10.00am until late up until Christmas

So there you have it ; whether you are in the City Centre or Meadowhall I hope something appealed to you . Should you decide to you treat yourself to a new top, face cream or a cocktail .

Enjoy!

Until next time,
