“I want to be different. If everyone is wearing black, I want to be wearing red” Maria Sharapova
Nothing screams Christmas festivities more than a little red dress and I’m loving this particular one from JD Williams.
It got me feeling all ‘Mrs – Claus !’
I always used to shy away from wearing red; I thought it was very in your face, tarty even and didn’t really suit me. My mum always used to say “red dress … no knickers”! Which to this day still makes me giggle.
I can assure you I did have knickers on … it was positively freezing and I like to keep my maureen warm!
My fear of all things red however changed over the summer when I dived in [red blinkers obviously off] and bought this beautiful insta-famous jumper from Marks & Spencer’s [ below]
It didn’t look as bad as I had envisioned, in fact I really rather loved it.
So back to the dress …
as soon as I spotted it , I just knew I had to have it and prayed they had it in stock in my size.
I was in luck , they did!
All the Yays!
Just a quick word about JD Williams if I may. It’s the first time I’ve actually been on their site and I was very presently surprised. For whatever reason I had preconceived ideas it was for old ‘fuddy duddies’. Not the case at all. They have some beautiful bits and pieces.
This for one.
The red corset midi dress.
Look at the beautiful detail. The corset style fastening , puffed sleeve with fabulous deep cuffs.
I had read some reviews on-line that said they were disappointed with the material. It is quite thin but for a night out I prefer my clothes that way and it’s not something that would put me off. In fact its rather ideal because you could wear the dress in the summer months too.
I pulled on my new Primark red boots, some statement earrings and my Gran’s vintage leopard skin jacket .
We were good to go…

I already have a few other options in my mind on how to mix this outfit up…
Substituting the red ankle boots for sparkly gold stilettos for one. Changing up my faux fur [ I have 5 to choose from] adding a ‘bling-bling’ handbag for a night on the tiles. Most probably my birthday meal with the girls next week.
Other ideas include …
- Adding some funky tights …
- Black accessories and chunky silver accessories … [bunch of flowers optional.]
- A hat and faux fur gillet
So there you have it my thoughts on all things red, I hope its inspired in some way
Are you a fan of red ? How do you wear yours ? I’d love to know ?
Mrs Claus if you happen to be reading …. I think you got it down to a tee. You rock!
Until next time, Tracey x
