B E A U T Y | SPF talk

One item of my skincare I never miss out on is my SPF. I wear it daily come rain ,wind or shine . There is no point spending time and money on other areas of your routine if you are going to skip on your protection.

FACT | Short term sun damage presents as sunburn. Long term unprotected sun exposure causes gradual damage to skin known as sun damage or photoageing , and accounts for around 90% of the signs of skin-ageing.

Beauty | Holiday Routine

After posting some photos over on my stories while in Malaga last week, I had a few ladies ask me about my holiday makeup and beauty routine.

By a few make that 4 … [oh to be popular] but I thought it might make for some interesting reading and went with it anyway.

First off we only had a 10kg hand luggage allowance each which meant we were restricted on what we could take with us. Nothing bigger than a 100ml bottle and any liquids had to all fit in just one of those airport approved plastic bags.

I suppose we could have waited and transferred all our liquids across into a free bag at the airport. However to save messing around we [ rather Karen ] ordered some gear from Amazon, 2 plastic bags and 5 plastic bottles [ great to decanter shampoos, suncream etc. into ] for £6.00. I think Primark do something similar.

When I go away with the girls, I also know they’ll not be much time to ‘phaff’ or that I’ll get much sleep , so I pair it all down. Simple is best.

Oh to be a Beach Goddess, SPF’s – the usual holiday musings …

I’m going on holiday in a few weeks for a long weekend in Malaga with 4 of my best girl friends .

I don’t care that it’s only 4 nights away because I know they will be a fabulous fun-filled 4. It’s amazing what you can pack into a few days.

We’ve booked a beach house through Air BnB which looks idyllic. The views look amazing and it really is only a stones throw away from the sea. My favourite place . I swear in a previous life I was a fish … or maybe a dolphin.

There are 2 large roof terraces. I can see us chilling there with cold beers while putting the world to rights. They’ll hopefully be lots of sun, Sangria and probably not much sleep… because we’ll be dancing the night away of course. Got to love some serious cheesy euro-pop in the sunshine haven’t you !

We fly out on a Thursday with one air line and back the following Monday with another. We’ve only booked hand-luggage on the way out. We aren’t entirely sure what’s happening on the return journey … we’ve booked ‘priority something or another’ for £5. We’ve been reassured our bags will return with us! Famous last words.

I’ve therefore got to pack lightly and only take what I really need which to be honest I’m quite good at. This was something that always surprised my mum. She couldn’t quite believe how somebody so scatty in everyday life could pack like a pro! [ I never let on that I could pack , just not necessarily the right stuff! ]

Umpa Lumpa Tan… no more!

I’m the lady who you see around the pool . You know the one … big sunglasses that cover most of her face, even bigger hat, wearing factor 50 (my choice being La Roche -Posay Anthelios 50+ ) with her head burrowed in a magazine. If you didn’t know rightly you would perhaps think she had just had surgery, a face lift maybe as she keeps her face firmly under wraps. She appears elusive and sometimes rude.

You would be wrong, it is of course just plain old me being paranoid about getting old and making every effort to keep the wrinkles at bay! Mr Sun is rather lovely but he’s also very aging and the tan never stays around long enough for it to be worth your while. I think I’m winning on the wrinkle front,  the only negative is that I’m often left with what I fondly call ‘brown body white face syndrome’!

My answer to this is a good old facial self tanner and when I say I’ve tried them all, believe my I’ve tried them all. Often bringing me out in spots, leaving me ‘umpa lumpa’ orange or just sitting in my pores I gave up and made do with a white face in the day, made whiter by the sun screen and a bronzer at night. Oh how the boyfriend laughs when it all comes off and there I am with my beautifully tanned body leading to my … well my big white face.

Above my trusty 50+ sun-protection.

After a desperate, if rather random tweet asking for peoples recommendations on a good facial self- tanner imagine my delight when Kat from ‘Does my bum look 40 in this’ sent a tweet saying I must try Chanel Perfect Colour Face self Tanner SPF8. She always looks immaculate, and not at all orange… I was on it like a fat lady eating cake and ran skipping off to Boots like an excited child!

What can I say this stuff is the dogs  b******,  the colour is very subtle, it smells like false tan but not perhaps as strong as others I’ve used previously . A little goes a long way and you can build the colour gradually. The best bit ? it makes your skin look better. I’m not sure why or even how but it does?! It leaves a lovely veil over the skin – leaving your skin looking more evenly toned? I’m sure there will be some technical reason why, but honestly who cares?

I apply at night after cleansing and awake the next day with lovely sun-kissed skin. All that is usually left for me to do then is apply my usual Dr Jart BB cream, and I’m good to go…Perfect.

Until next time, Tracey x
