S T Y L E | 3 jewellery brands you need to know about

I’m sat on my bed, my 4th, maybe my 5th coffee is on the go … and my second outfit . Let’s just say the weather put play to my first one. I’m listening to David Bowie and the heavy rain that is pelting against my window. Today June feels more like October [ sigh ]

I’m giggling because earlier , at the ripe old age of 49 , I discovered Penguins have knees. Who knew eh? I thought that was the reason they shuffled – because they didn’t have any [ knees] and they couldn’t bend their legs. Sounds a bit silly when I think about it!

I should be in Lisbon right now with my lady-friends . A long weekend of fun, frolics and exploring a new city had been carefully planned …. the Universe however and the ‘shit show’ that is 2020 had other ideas. Sheffield in the rain it is then! Continue reading

Instagram Finds…you’ll want to know about

Love it or hate it Instagram for the whole is a good place to be.

Little squares to inspire , or be inspired. A place to share your loves and your hates, your fashion finds, beauty essentials, interior goals… a place to be creative. To discover similar creatives…

Let’s just put to the back of our mind the people buying a following, the follow-unfollow game, the crazy algorithm [groan] and the swipe up facility that you can’t access or use until you reach 10k followers ? Why Instagram why?

As well as ‘meeting’ and getting to know some truly fabulous people , I’ve also discovered some really lovely small UK brands. Had it not been for Instagram I might not have done so.

I thought I’d share some of them with you today.

First up is a friend of mine that I didn’t actually discover on here [ little details eh ] we went to college together back in the day, but who you can find on Instagram here. Continue reading

Crucifix Love …#desertdiamonds

When I was younger I was fascinated by Vampires. I would sit and watch ‘tame’ black and white Dracula movies , get the ‘willies’ but also secretly wish I could be a (lady) creature of the night.

They were always portrayed so beautifully. They were alluring, flawless , had killer cleavage and they didn’t bloody age!

While most youngsters had their sights on becoming a nurse or something along those lines. Not me I had my sights on  becoming a vampire bride.

Hey don’t panic … I’m not a nutter, I  knew they didn’t really exist, I’ve always had my head in the clouds . I was, I still am,  a day dreamer.

Things all  changed after a particularly scary encounter with the film  ‘Salem’s Lot’. It scared  mum and I to bloody death (and then some) We daren’t even go upstairs afterwards.

Dad came in from the pub to find us both hiding behind cushions. Slightly bemused he told us both to grow up and to not watch things along these lines again if we couldn’t handle it.

I was convinced for weeks I was being watched while I slept. I daren’t open curtains incase a pair of eyes came staring back at me. These weren’t pretty vampires, they were evil, ugly rip you to pieces vampires.

That’s the power of a good film and an over active imagination.

I bought myself a cross as a safety prevention not long afterwards ( well I bugged mum to buy me one and basically did her head in until she did )… you know to keep the evil spirits away.

Daft as all the above may sound ( and I know it really does) I’ve worn one ever since.

Just a plain cross.

Simple but pretty.

It makes me feel safe and old habits die-hard.

I go big on arm candy and earrings but it’s always just a cross around my neck. I sometimes add a plain black choker when the occasion takes me.

You can therefore imagine my delight when Victoria from Desert Diamonds got in touch to ask whether I would like to review one of their crucifix pendants or crosses as I refer to them. She had noted that I wore one after seeing some of my pics over on Instagram. (@the_naughtyfortydiaries)

I said a big fat yes without hesitation.

It arrived over the weekend and here I am wearing it Saturday night.

The first thing I noticed was how sparkly it was (never mind keeping those evil spirits at bay, by golly  this one would dazzle them to death) Continue reading

Lily and Rose … an introduction

You’ll be happy to know that it’s only 2 weeks until I go on my long weekend to Marbella!

Or ‘bloody Marbella‘ as my mum and everybody who has had to endure me whittling on about it for the past few weeks have now christened it.

We appear to have moved on from the Bloody dog! In reference to Mollie who every visit insists on slathering like she has rabies on mums prize laminate floor !

I promise on my return to shut up about it and move on … I’ll never mention bloody Marbella again. Well not after I’ve posted numerous photos and my memoirs of course.

I’m only going for a long weekend ( but oh what a weekend it will be!) I’ll be back before you know it.

I’m excited to the point of busting .I’m that annoying 45 year old who refuses to grow up.

I had a similar feeling when I received a parcel from Sweden earlier this week.

Although I knew what it contained I couldn’t wait to see the goodies in the flesh.

Inside where 3 items I had personally choosen and that were then gifted to me by lilyandrosebyzetterberg.

I was dead chuffed that they approached me and even more so when I saw the jewellery .

I adore accessorises and tend to pile the bracelets on to create a ‘stack’ more or less everyday. Tanned arms and lots of brackets. Perfect.

I also love earrings.

Big and bold are my preference, though I’ve been known  to go small and delicate on occasion.

I do believe that your accessories can make or break an outfit.

I had my holiday outfits in the back of my mind when selecting my jewellery from the vast selection Lily and Rose have to offer.

Lily and Rose specialise in Vintage inspired crystal jewellery.

With a background in fashion design, Therese Zetterberg created a successful concept with her two complementing brands.

Zetterberg Couture – exclusive couture, ready to wear clothes as well as bridal collections.

Lily and Rose – accompanying brand for standalone or matching jewellery.

The Name Lily and Rose actually comes from the TV series Sex and the City. One of the main characters was the wealthly Charlotte York Goldenblatt, who named her two daughters Lily and Rose.

“Lily and Rose is a tribute to the best TV series ever made”, says Therese. ” I was 16 years old when Sex in the City started and it was my biggest source of inspiration at the time. For three years I was Carrie Bradshaw lookalike every weekend, quite a success in my hometown.”

First up I’d like you to meet the  ‘Amy earrings. A beautiful pair of cocktail earrings that feature multi faceted Swarovski crystals.

They really are something else.

Sturdy ( if an earring can be described as that) and very blingy. They sparkle when the light catches them.

The best bit is that they don’t have backs on them, they just loop through your ear. No missing back problems !

I love.

I’ve bought a new white lace dress from Fashion Union and these will look amazing with it.

They retail at £89.00 which many people ( myself included ) may find a tad  on the expensive side for everyday. Thatsaid they   would be ideal for that special occasion… Wedding, christening , family birthday and /or bloody Marbella 🙂

Leona Vintage Rose bracelet is handcrafted from gold tone brass adorned with Swarovski crystals.

It retails at £59.00 and is just simply gorgeous.

It has a real Vintage feel to it and is quite different to anything I’ve seen before.I couldn’t stop admiring it when I wore it earlier this week. People must have thought I had an affliction with my wrist!

Miss Miranda Vintage Rose bracelet is so delicate and pretty. I’ve been wearing this for the past few days. It’s so wearable.

It’s simple but packs a punch. This particular bracelet retails at just £29.00 which I think is excellent value.

I love rose gold . This bracelet is simple in design yet  stunning on. Only today I got complimented on it while out shopping.

I’m over the moon with all the items I’ve received and the only question is …

which one to wear today !

I’m off bikini shopping now, so wish me luck. I think one may need it…

Until next time, Tracey x

Boho Chic

I was going to do a post today about Lola , you know my cat, the one that I lost last week. I mentioned it to my BF earlier who shrugged his shoulders and said “oh I wouldn’t if I were you its a beautiful day you’ll depress people”… I suppose he may have a point…

He’s busy downstairs fitting our new kitchen. For those of you regular readers ( I presume we have a few) yes the kitchen we started before bloody Christmas. What can I say its been somewhat of a nightmare …BUT I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.(she says through gritted teeth and with baited breathe)

So with the sun shining outside I’m starting to think about all things summer holiday related. I’ve not mentioned my forth-coming weekend away in Marbella with the girls  have I? (only about 200 times!) I’m also hoping to get a week away with the Mr, somewhere hot, shortly. Maybe even Ibiza?

I’ve recently been drawn to everything Boho. It’s so colourful, pretty and basically fun. It’s like Ibiza and holidays all rolled up in one, often associated with the ‘arty farty’ types. Yep I’ve been called that before!

I’ve been scouring ebay and the like for ‘Ibiza inspired’ clothing. My boyfriend thinks I’m having a ‘crisis’ … of what sorts I’ve no idea but a crisis non the less.

Maybe it’s a cry out to my younger self, the one who spent the amazing summer of 1987 Island hopping around the Greek Islands. It was just Karen (one of my best friends) and I, my ruck-sack, several pairs of shorts, my treasured converse and no hair-dryer! Yes there was a time when I could live without my electrical friend. Saying that my hair was that short it didn’t need it.

We lived (and partied) for 7 blissful weeks in just our bikinis and shorts, sun-kissed and care-free …(pre my factor 50 days !) ‘hopping’ from island to island.

Such an amazing experience. I’ll tell you about it one day…

Anyway I’ve recently discovered Emonk Ibiza via Instagram and I’m now hankering after a pair of their boots…

What do you think?

I love them.

Boyfriend hates them !
