L I F E | lockdown PR

Morning Campers how are you all doing today as we enter week 6 of lockdown ?? I think its week 6 anyway – who knows ?

[ I’ve just been advised it’s actually week 7! Bloody hell how time flies when you … don’t do much ! ]

Is anybody else losing track of the days, or is it just me? Days are blending into days and weeks into weeks ; it’s like one big old round of Ground Hog Day!

I have to admit I’ve not struggled too much with the lockdown, in a weird way I’ve actually enjoyed some parts of it. Tik Tok. Reading actual books . Afternoon Gin in the garden followed by decadent baths. Binge watching ‘Gangs of London’ and the beautiful ‘Normal People’. Friday Night Zoom quizzes with my friends. However as the weather has taken a turn for the worse and I’ve found myself confined indoors I have found myself feeling a little like spider man … and crawling walls !

LIFE | Grimm & Co doing magical things for the children of Yorkshire

Magic I’ve discovered can happen anywhere and at any age

A few weeks ago I was invited to Grimm & Co. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. I knew that it was a charity helping children between the ages of 7 to 18 unleash their imaginations and encourage them to write by way of story-making and writing workshops . That alone sold it to me.

So Sue [ my plus one ] and I made our short way across the border to Rotherham to discover the wonder that is Grimm & Co.

It sits on the corner of Doncaster Gate , a grand brick building, the window display itself is enough to lure you in.

So what is Grimm & Co ?

In it’s own words it is …

An apothecary to the Magical, selling wild schemes, evil plots, charms , curses and kitchenware, including ‘giant belly button cleaners’ for removing pesky stray chickens and ‘suspension of disbelief’ [a bestseller amongst fairies] However for the children and young people of Yorkshire there’s the added pinch of fantastical behind the secret door.

An imaginative space and community that supports and inspires young people to write. To champion the writer in every child.

They aim to build the capacity of children and young people to discover and unleash their individual talents, building self esteem and recognition of their individuality and potential.

Using storytelling they aim to give every child, from every background a voice.

STYLE | Teal Appeal

“Teal is a deep blue-green colour; a dark cyan

Teal gets its name from the coloured area around the eyes of the common teal, a member of the duck family.”

Hey up its me, sat typing and sweltering. I’m at work and I really want to whip my bra, pants and dress off. Not my best idea. But hey … anybody else feeling the same vibe…

Apart from the glorious weather – this week has kicked off to a grand start. I’ve only gone and bloody won a dress over on instagram! I know, I know … go me!

I don’t often do fashion posts ; I’m hardly the most fashionable person on the planet . I personally think people should wear what the bloody hell they want too. It’s clothing not rocket science. It should be fun and it should also be a reflection of you, whether it’s ‘ in fashion‘ or not. #youdoyou

Style | They Call Me Mellow Yellow …

Do you ever look though a magazine or swipe through Instagram and see something you HAVE to have.

That’s a silly question … of course you do.

I do it a lot actually but I don’t necessarily act on my instincts. Mainly because I’m always skint and very fickle; my urges move on quickly.

One item I did see. One that wouldn’t stop playing on my mind was a yellow jacket from JD Williams new season collection. It looked at me and whispered “you try and walk away… buy me, buy me

I had some birthday money left and as I didn’t think the price was bad at all [£50.00] I only bloody ordered it. It felt satisfying, because basically it was.

I had hoped it would be as fabulous in the flesh as it looked on paper. I had my fingers crossed that I wouldn’t look too much like ‘Big Bird’ from Sesame Street in it … I mean at 5ft 10 it’s a worry.

So here she is in all her glory…

Instagram Finds…you’ll want to know about

Love it or hate it Instagram for the whole is a good place to be.

Little squares to inspire , or be inspired. A place to share your loves and your hates, your fashion finds, beauty essentials, interior goals… a place to be creative. To discover similar creatives…

Let’s just put to the back of our mind the people buying a following, the follow-unfollow game, the crazy algorithm [groan] and the swipe up facility that you can’t access or use until you reach 10k followers ? Why Instagram why?

As well as ‘meeting’ and getting to know some truly fabulous people , I’ve also discovered some really lovely small UK brands. Had it not been for Instagram I might not have done so.

I thought I’d share some of them with you today.

First up is a friend of mine that I didn’t actually discover on here [ little details eh ] we went to college together back in the day, but who you can find on Instagram here. Continue reading

House Style at Chatsworth House

“The joy of dressing is an art “ John Galliano

Yesterday the sun was shining and I spent an amazing afternoon with my friend Sue who shares an equal love for all things fashion when we paid a visit to the House Style Exhibition at Chatsworth House.

I had no intention of blogging about my trip BUT I had my ‘big’camera on me and after walking around, taking photos, lusting after several dresses and generally being ‘gob-smacked ‘ at the majority of items on show I just had to share it with you .

Although the Exhibition ends very shortly there is some good news in that you have until 22nd October, 2017 to go and see it for yourself.

Go, go , go but maybe stick around and read my post first …

The House Style Exhibition demonstrates the power of fashion. It brings to life the captivating individuals from the Cavendish family over five centuries .

  • Bess of Hardwick, one of the most powerful women of the 16th century
  • The 18th century “Empress of Fashion” Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire
  • Adele Astaire, the sister and dance partner of Fred Astaire
  • Deborah Devonshire and Nancy Mitford, two of the Mitford sisters, model Stella Tennant and John F Kennedy’s sister ‘Kick’ Kennedy will also be central to the show

I thought I’d share some of my favourite bits and pieces with you. Continue reading
