Ladies that Lunch | The Florentine , Sheffield

Date night last week was spent feasting on a fabulous 3-course meal in this beautiful corner of the Florentine Pub…

We had a lovely meal and I’ve been meaning to write this review up for the past few days … but you know sunshine. I’ve been more or less laid horizontal for the past few days in the back garden and you know what it’s been really rather nice.

We are back to drizzle in Sheffield, so here I am … like Arnie.

Jazz Hands & Cocktails … ‘Manhattan til Midnight’

Back  when I was a student studying art and design I did my thesis [ a long essay or dissertation involving personal research, written by a candidate for a university degree.] on jazz.

I’d not particularly got an interest in jazz at the time. What I did have was an amazing tutor who sold the idea to me. Armed with books, tapes, vinyls and fully aware of my love of music he thrust them all at me and enthusiastically ran through his favourite artists – Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald … stopping to play excerpts and slightly losing himself while doing so.

“I still love the whole history of jazz. The old things sound better than ever” – Steve Lacy

I can remember him sitting me down and telling me that writing a thesis could be boring ; a long hard slog. That the subject matter must therefore keep your interest. This [ jazz ] he said most definitely would.

I admired his passion. I wanted to understand , I wanted  a part of it.

And that [in a nutshell] my friends is how I discovered jazz music.  Continue reading

Wagamama Summer tasting…

My favourite type of invite normally involves food and drink, so when Wagamama in Meadowhall got in touch to see whether I’d like to give their new summer menu a whirl … I was like the cat that got the cream.

It also happens to be one of the Mr’s favourite eateries, so when I told him it was a plus one invitation and would he like to join me … we are like a couple of cats that had got the cream!

So off we popped earlier this week …

To be or not Bhaji …

Today’s choice of eatery for #ladiesthatlunch was The Bhaji Shop Thali Cafe on Chesterfield Road.

I had never heard of it before but trust Sue’s judgement. It was her first visit too; she was keen to give it a whirl after a couple of her friends had recommended it.

I just love the exterior – unassuming, colourful and a bit shabby looking .

The inside is equally as impressive , turquoise feature wall, funky patterned stools, pretty lighting with the whiff of incense floating in the air. It’s my kind of place. One I happen to have driven past 100’s of times and never noticed! Dah.

We arrived just before noon and got parked bang outside. We had a choice of seats as we were the first there . It quickly filled up. .

We sat at the window table where we were greeted by our lovely and very helpful waitress. (Who had a couple of fabulous tattoos I sat admiring – I’m desperate for another)

She ran through the menu with us , advising us of the specials and how the menu worked.

We ordered coffees and went about deciding what we fancied to eat. Continue reading

Summer House in Spring …#ladiesthatlunch40

When the suns feeling flirty,  it’s (slightly) warm outside and the daffodils  are popping up left, right and centre it makes me want to grab some friends, find a nice bar and partake in some good conversation, serious eating and drinking

Alfresco of course . You really can’t beat it…

I’m often heard saying “England is rather beautiful when it’s sunshining out” (like a record , over the summer months)

Yesterday ticked several of those boxes and with my usual Friday lunch partner Sue being out of the country for a few weeks (the lucky buggars over in Spain ) I grabbed the Mr and off we popped.

Well truth be known, The Mr actually suggested we go out for lunch. I’m glad as I didn’t want him to think he was a second best option.

Having heard good reports about The Summerhouse we decided we should head there… Ok so he’s not a lady but what’s details between friends eh? Let’s pretend.

I put my glad rags on and he got suited and booted.

All the Pinks and Greys

I’m wearing pale pink jumper dress (kindly gifted from Mandy’s Heaven) with River Island skinny fit jeans, Avon leopard print scarf and my ‘Larry the Lamb’ coat from Primark.

I’m also giving my new bag from Debenhams an outing along  with my bargain snakeskin shoes from Primark … they were all of £8.00!

This is one of the bags I bought the other day and I love it. Its pretty but also big enough to get all my ‘bumf’ in  …camera, notepad , make-up etc etc …or as my mum refers to it – everything including the kitchen sink! Continue reading

Ladies that Lunch hit Barnsley…#ladiesthatlunchfriday

It’s Friday,  so what do we want?

Lunch…

When do we want it ?!

Now.

I’ll be quite honest with you, I’ve been fairly chilled about the state of the house….that was until illness struck me a few days ago and now absolutely everything annoys me.

E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G!!

The constant mess, tripping over tools, builders mess everywhere…living out of a box. Shall I go on?

I was even annoying myself.

To say I was glad to leave the house for the afternoon on Friday was no exaggeration!

Our choice of destination – Barnsley, for a spot of culture, followed by some lunch and a chat.

The culture came courtesy of a free  exhibition being held at the Civic – Hanson Street, Barnsley S70 2HZ Continue reading
