When the suns feeling flirty, it’s (slightly) warm outside and the daffodils are popping up left, right and centre it makes me want to grab some friends, find a nice bar and partake in some good conversation, serious eating and drinking
Alfresco of course . You really can’t beat it…
I’m often heard saying “England is rather beautiful when it’s sunshining out” (like a record , over the summer months)
Yesterday ticked several of those boxes and with my usual Friday lunch partner Sue being out of the country for a few weeks (the lucky buggars over in Spain ) I grabbed the Mr and off we popped.
Well truth be known, The Mr actually suggested we go out for lunch. I’m glad as I didn’t want him to think he was a second best option.
Having heard good reports about The Summerhouse we decided we should head there… Ok so he’s not a lady but what’s details between friends eh? Let’s pretend.
I put my glad rags on and he got suited and booted.

All the Pinks and Greys
I’m wearing pale pink jumper dress (kindly gifted from Mandy’s Heaven) with River Island skinny fit jeans, Avon leopard print scarf and my ‘Larry the Lamb’ coat from Primark.
I’m also giving my new bag from Debenhams an outing along with my bargain snakeskin shoes from Primark … they were all of £8.00!
This is one of the bags I bought the other day and I love it. Its pretty but also big enough to get all my ‘bumf’ in …camera, notepad , make-up etc etc …or as my mum refers to it – everything including the kitchen sink!
The Summerhouse is located at 289a Abbeydale Road South, Sheffield S17 3LB (the posh side of town – a suburb of Dore ) It’s approximately a 25 minute drive across town from ours , if the traffic is in your favour and you don’t have to stop off to discuss such mundane things as gates along the way !
An hour or so later , we eventually pulled up outside the Summerhouse. ( yes we had to stop to discuss blinking gates !)
There is a small car-park directly outside so you should be able to get parked.

The Conservatory and Main Entrance to The Summerhouse
We were seated on one of the high tables and ordered our drinks. The first thing I noted was how beautiful the decor is.

It’s not a massive place but the space is used to it’s full advantage.
Wallpaper that looks like exposed brickwork ( so real I had to feel to make sure ) high level seating mixed with low. Beautiful wooden floors (we now want similar in our kitchen).
Plenty of light. Pretty ornaments. There’s also a lovely glass conservatory / seating area as you first enter with lots of potted flowers. Lovely.
There’s a varied menu but I choose the Classic Chicken Club Sandwich (crispy bacon, boiled egg, plum tomatoes and mayonnaise) with salad – £6.95
It came well presented, was tasty and very filling.
The Curious Brew is a premium lager and it went down a treat. So sharp and refreshing – half pint £2.50 and pint £4.20 . Highly recommended …by me.
Mike choose the Hanging Kebab (chicken marinated in lemon, garlic and coriander, chorizo, red onion, peppers, lemon chilli cous cous with mixed salad, chilli jam and tzatziki dipping sauces ) -£11.95 with extra chips -£2.95

The Hanging Kebab with salad and chips – No pitta bread

The Chips that saved the day
Mikes face was a picture when his meal turned up. “Where’s my pitta bread” he questioned as the waitress left our table with an “enjoy your meal”
I explained that these were obviously ‘posh kebabs’ and cous cous and sauces would have to suffice.
Thankfully he had ordered chips. Mike has a big appetite and needs the bread / potatoe / stodge to fill him up.
Despite his initial disappointment he thoroughly enjoyed his meal and said the mixture of cous cous, meat and sauces was delicious.
We ordered a couple of coffees ( cappuccino for me and latte for Mike) and our desserts. I know, I know Marbella is fast approaching but life is really too short to say no to cake / pudding.
Mike ordered Sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and Butterscotch sauce – £5.95
‘Twas Delicious …I know because in the name of research I had several spoonfuls. Dessert is definitely my down-fall. I can’t say no!

Mikes dessert was delicious
I ordered 3 scoops of plain vanilla ice cream – £3.95 … because quite frankly some days nothing else beats it .

Vanilla ice-cream in all it’s glory

Ladies that Lunch ? Sue you do look different this week… but I cant quite put my finger on it.
The whole meal came to just over £45 for the 2 of us which I didn’t think was too steep especially as the food and drink was so very good.
Mike was very impressed and is already planning our next visit.
No complaints here, I’m already looking forward to it.
