A F T E R N O O N • tea at The Ritz, London

The Ritz first opened its doors in 1906; at the time it was considered one of the greatest hotels in the world.

The Ritz remained open during both world wars and survived the Blitz.

Conceived by the famous hotelier César Ritz with the aim of becoming the ultimate destination for guests looking to stay at the most luxurious hotel in the land, no expense was spared on its opulent interiors and lavish furnishings.

I can confirm she really is a beauty.

We arrived an hour early [ very keen ] so popped into The Rivoli Bar for a cocktail. It’s worth noting you are at The Ritz and the costs reflect that. Our cocktails cost between £23 & £25 each. These were amongst the cheapest options available on the drinks menu. Oh, tell a lie you could grab a cup of tea but even that’s £8 a cup.

When in Rome …

We then proceeded downstairs to the Private Members Bar . The room were you would normally have enjoyed Afternoon Tea is closed due to it being under refurbishment.

It is absolutely stunning, decadent and grand. A scattering of waiters ducked and dived around us while the resident pianist played us some familiar tunes..

Mood definitely set.

Pass me the cake !

We chatted, while tucking into an array of finger sandwiches, cakes and scones with clotted cream and jam. All washed down with a glass of pink champagne and a pot of your choice of 18 loose leaf teas. I choose Earl Grey .

As soon as our plates got low the waiters would fly in and provide more supplies. I was fit to busting as I left. It may seem steep at £84 pp but they do make sure you are well fed and happy.

Should you require they will provide you with a doggie bag for any items you do not manage to eat. We left with a few scones, a birthday cake, full tummies and full hearts.

Definitely one to tick off the bucket list and for filling the old memory bank.

Prices start at £67 – read more HERE
