I’ve rediscovered my love for walking and seen as I’ve stated several times [ on here] that this is the year I’m getting fit it couldn’t have come at a better time.
I’ve been heading for Damflask Reservoir which can be found at Lower Bradfield, conveniently only a 5 minute drive from mine.
A little history if I may …
Damflask reservoir was constructed in 1867. It has a capacity of 1,123 million gallons and a maximum depth of 88 feet. [ though it’s very low at the moment ] Today it is also used by Sheffield rowing and sailing club and for fishing. Good trout I here.
It’s beautiful,my thinking place…
Starting in the village of Low Bradfield [ I park on the road side adjacent the cricket pitch ] the circular route takes you through long stretches of woodland and waterside.
In total [ round trip] it stretches 3.8 miles.
The route also offers fabulous views across Damflask Reservoir. Take your camera as its a photographers dream.
I’ve actually walked this route twice this week … as my legs are telling me! My plan is to do this every week and eventually try and run part of it!
A girl can dream!
Mollie [ our dog] loves it despite not being allowed off her lead. If I did let her she would be straight in the water trying to doggy paddle to the other side.
I’d be stood there debating whether to dive in and go get her while having a cross between a panic attack and a dicky fit on the side of the water.
I thought I’d share some photos with you taken during this weeks walks… all the pictures were taken on my I phone which I stick in my pocket. I can’t cope with chunky camera as well as a giddy dog.
Note to self : must get strap sorted on my Olympus!
Monday was moody and misty. Friday was crisp with bright sunshine…
I’ve kindly been gifted some ‘Cuddl Duds’ clothing from Indigo Blush , a fab little company I found on twitter some time ago.
I received a black crew neck sweatshirt and hoodie.
They are described as a ‘fleece with stretch’ and because they are so thin are great for layering. Despite being so thin they are surprisingly warm and cosy. It’s like wrapping yourself in a great big blanket. Great for wearing while walking, skiing and yoga.
The hoodie even has slits where your thumbs sit so doubles as hand warmers. Fabulous. I love this detail…
Teamed with my bronze trainers from Vionic I practically skip around!
Today I actually looked like a ‘proper walker’ [screams all the gear … no idea] It beats tottering around in totally unsuitable footwear getting strange looks!
Below : A better detail of my new tops.
The crew neck long sleeved vest -£29.00 with the hoodie – £31.00 both available from Indigo Blush
I hope your feeling inspired …
If all the walking makes you thirsty there are no shortage of watering holes.
The Plough [dog friendly] is situated in Lower Bradfield and The Old Horns [ fantastic views] just up the [fairly steep] hill at Higher Bradfield.
Both serve food which I have sampled and as pub grub goes is very decent.
The post office stocks a variety of canned drinks and sweets if your with little ones and you don’t fancy the pub.
There are also The School Rooms Butchery -Deli -Cafe in Lower Bradfield where you can not only grab a drink in their award winning Cafe but also stock up on locally grown produce.
So what’s stopping you?
Grab your walking shoes and camera… [ in my case phone!] and let me know how you get on.
And Sheffield Tourist board if your reading … have you got any vacancies?
Until next time, Tracey x
