Autumn morning ; sunshine and crisp air, birds and calmness, years end and day’s beginnings – Terri Guillemets
I Love Autumn … its my absolute favourite time of year.
Dark cold nights loom in early followed by fresh, nippy mornings.
The leaves on the trees turn from green to burnt orange, golden brown and vibrant reds. Everything looks beautifully colourful.
I walk Mollie in the woods opposite my house, I kick leaves into the air as we ‘stroll’ which she tries unsuccessfully to catch in her mouth.
I blow on my hands to keep warm and see my breathe in front of me.
We return home, I’m all rosy cheeks, frizzy hair and I can’t feel my hands. Summer is a time for drinking cool fizzy drinks alfresco in the garden. Autumn is quite the opposite; it’s sat sipping hot chocolate with marshmallows in front of an open fire.
It’s Baileys coffee on tap.
It’s Baileys on ice.
It’s Baileys ‘any-which-way’ time of year.
Switching lipsticks to something deeper.
‘Love Actually ‘
Conker fights (find the biggest , polish it, perfect it, go knock the hell outta other conkers)
Long bubble baths followed by cosy nights in front of the TV . Blanket optional.
Layering.
Chunky over-size jumpers, woolly bobble hats and fluffy scarfs.
Toasty feet courtesy of thick colourful socks…socks that are so thick you struggle to get your feet into your boots.
Pumpkin carving , followed by pumpkin soup and crusty bread.
Trick or Treat.
Scary movies, hiding behind cushions. Dashing upstairs to get into the safety of your bed before the boogie man gets you!
Crying over (your polished to perfection) broken conker.
It’s everything by candlelight, the more candles the merrier.
Bonfire night.
The smell of fire lingering in the evening air.
Home-made Parkin, toffee apples, Catherine Wheels and sparklers.
The anticipation of Christmas.
It’s a magical time of year…

“I was drinking in the surroundings: air so crisp you could snap it with your fingers and greens in every lush shade imaginable offset by autumnal flashes of red and yellow.” – Wendy Delsol, Stork

Pumpkin Soup and Crusty Bread

“October, baptize me with leaves! Swaddle me in corduroy and nurse me with split pea soup. October, tuck tiny candy bars in my pockets and carve my smile into a thousand pumpkins. O autumn! O teakettle! O grace!” – Rainbow Rowell, Attachments

Succulent by candle-light (above) recent purchase from Sainsburys -£3.00

Trick or Treat Goodies ..
“Fall has always been my favourite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.” – Lauren DeStefano, Wither

Pine cones and Pretty Lights…

So what do you think ..has that put you in the mood for all things Autumn…
Do you like me, love it … or hate it?

I do love Autumn! I think the thing I like best is being able to move on from summer salads and sandwiches to hearty stews and meals in the slow cook. Yum.
