We received an invitation to attend the VIP opening of Piccolino New All Weather Terrace last Wednesday evening. We didn’t have to be asked twice and jumped at the chance.
Piccolino’s is situated in Millennium Square, Sheffield City Centre. Near to the Peace Gardens, opposite the 5-star St Pauls Hotel and the Winter Gardens, it’s a beautiful spot.
We arrived suitably late, just after 6pm. We made our way through the new terrace towards the bar where we were offered the drink of our choice. Three guess’s what we chose, though I think you’ll only need one …Champagne all the way baby!
The terrace was already buzzing but we managed to find a seat with our new found friend Mitra – a lovely lady who appeared to be alone and asked us to join her. We settled down with our drinks to take in the new surroundings, catch up on the gossip and undertake our favourite pass time – people watching.
There is something rather magical about drinking and dining alfresco. Maybe its an English thing, maybe it’s just us. Maybe its because we don’t get to do it that often. Whatever the reason it was a lovely Sheffield evening and the terrace had its roof open. Yeah!
Imagine a trendy beach bar (without the beach,) music playing, big comfy sofa type seating; the type your body melts into, chunky cushions, lanterns and sturdy wooden tables. Definitely a place to chill out with your friends.
When it starts to turn cooler, the over-head heaters take over and ensure your left feeling nothing but toasty. It’s hard to envisage but if you’re still feeling cold, then that’s not a problem. There are big stripy pashminas along the top of each sofa, rolled up to resemble long, thin cushions.Just grab one and wrap it round yourself. Heaven forbid it should rain (boo hoo) then the retractable roof would just close / cover over. They really have all angles covered…
Armed with our drinks, delicious little canapés and cameras at the ready we made ourselves at home. Take a look for yourself…
As evening fell, the glow of the patio heaters took over, giving everything the rosy reflection of a Mediterranean sunset albeit in South Yorkshire’s Steel City…
If you ever happen to find yourself at a loose end in Sheffield we would highly recommend you head to Piccolino’s and experience the new terrace for yourself. With a cosmopolitan vibe and more than a touch of a Mediterranean feel, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in the middle of a continental city/resort.
Plonk yourself down, order some food, have a drink, or three. I can guarantee you’ll never want to move.
Lets all go Alfresco!
Until next time, Tracey & Liz x
