Beauty | First Impressions – Trinny London

Hello, hello, hello little people in my cyber space.

I’ve decided that this year along with the usual regulars like  ‘Ladies that Lunch’ I’m going to do a series called ‘First Impressions‘ which basically like the title suggests will be my first impressions of a product, person or a place.

Today’s, and my very first products are from Trinny London who I have been watching with interest from afar.

Firstly if you don’t follow Trinny on Instagram you are really missing a trick. Her quick fashion and beauty videos combined with her BIG personality are both informative and fun.

So a few months ago Trinny launched her capsule makeup collection. It’s basically all about ‘the stack’. A collection of products in 4g pots that snap together making it easy to carry around , especially when you are travelling.

You go online, undertake a colour match #Match2Me [ eye colour, skin tone etc] and then you are redirected to all the products in the shades that compliment you.

The full range includes:

BFF Cream, foundation , highlighter , contour, bronzer , mattifying balm, lip2cheek, blusher, lip gloss , lip colour and eyeshadow.

There is no face powder , eyebrow / eye pencils or mascara within the collection, so you would still need to purchase and carry these around with you.

I ordered the :

  • The Right Light – Starlight [Illuminator] – £25.00 4g pot
  • Lip Glow in Maddie – £16.00 4g pot

Beauty | My favourite make up discovery of 2017 is . . .

I’d like to think that amongst all the products I tested last year there were a few stand out favourites. Products I would repurchase again and again.

I am lucky that as a fairly established blogger I get sent a lot of ‘goodies’ from brands / PR companies keen for me to review their goods. However being the skincare / make-up junkie I am I also tend to purchase A LOT myself .

I like to mess what can I say? Nothing excites me more than getting my mitts on a  product by a brand I’ve not encountered before.

My favourite discovery of 2017 is one I bought myself and only chanced upon at the beginning of December. It was a recommendation by the skin care guru Nadine Baggot . Not personally of course, on one of her You Tube videos.

All Rebel with Charlotte Tilbury at House of Fraser

I had the absolute pleasure of being invited for a Charlotte Tilbury Transformation earlier this week to celebrate their recent launch in the House of Fraser, Meadowhall.

To say I was a tad excited was an understatement.

I have purchased a few bits and bobs from Charlotte Tilbury in the past but was keen to trail and discover more. Especially the skin care which I’ve heard mainly good reports about.

I arrived bear faced [with the exception of a slick of lippie] . I don’t think I’ve left the house without some form of makeup… ever!

It has however been an awful few weeks and finding out the devastating news that my mums cancer is back has been giving me sleepless nights.

Being told your mum has cancer is bad enough. Being told they’ve done everything they can, and your mum is now classed ‘as living with cancer’ is a hard pill to swallow.

She’s not classed as terminal yet and medication will hopefully slow the growth. “She could be around for years “ the nurse reassured us but it’s still a worry…

I’m finding it hard to comprehend mainly because the majority of me doesn’t want too. I suppose it’s called ‘in denial’

Like a military operation you get up, put your face on, smile. I’m becoming quite good at hiding the fact I’m in bits. I’ve got to be strong for mum.

Anyway, I’m all cried out with red watery eyes and dark circles. I feel as though I’ve aged about 10 years in a few weeks. I don’t think I look that great without makeup anyway but I looked positively exhausted, or as mum says ‘dug up’ on the morning of the makeover.

A makeover however was just what the doctor had ordered. I couldn’t wait but was also quite apprehensive having never had my makeup applied by a professional before. Continue reading

September Favourites…

I know, I know it’s not the end of September yet …but I didn’t do an August favourites. There was quite a lot going off and I never got around to it.

This you may say is an August / mid September favourites! (hey I like to be different)

First up is a lipstick I’ve been wearing morning, noon and night.

NYX matte lipstick in ‘MLS19 – Euro Trash’ – a perfect highly pigmented pink / deep beige.

I’m loving matte lipsticks at the moment, which doesn’t mean I’ve abandoned my gloss. The matte is just having it’s moment.

I put it on and it stays there – no running up my face in the little lines I have above my lip.   Many a time I’ve gone to the ladies and despaired as I looked in the mirror. Lip-gloss every where seemingly apart from my lips!

It’s creates a bold lip without being too much in your face. My only negative would be that it doesn’t have great staying power but nothing a quick re-apply wouldn’t  fix.

I’ve tried a few products from NYX , I’m also a big fan of the lip butters.

Purse friendly this Matte lipstick set me back just £6.50 and I purchased it from Boots. There’s a great range of shades with something to suit everybody.

Makeup Room Makeover – Part 1

I’ve been busy. Very busy.

I have a spare bedroom that has become a bit of a junk/storage/cat bed room. It’s been a waste of space for the last eight years as I can count on one hand the number of times it’s been slept in.

So I put my thinking cap on and used all of my persuasive powers on the other other half to let me turn it into a makeup room for myself and my daughter. A bit indulgent I know but hey, at least it will get plenty of use.

I’ve had in my mind how I want it to look and as soon as I had the say so from him indoors, I started the ball rolling before he had chance to change his mind. Anyway he has the garage for all his crap tools so I think it only fair that I have somewhere for mine!

The junk got chucked, the exact shade of paint got chosen and I got cracking…

First things first. Dressing table…I needed two so I went for two very plain high gloss black ones that will sit side by side along one wall.  Cheap and chearful but practical with drawer storage to hide anything not pretty enough to be on show. I got these ones from Homebase

And this is what they look like in reality (after three hours of self assembly and a few moans and groans about my bad back) – surprisingly sturdy considering the price…

As it’s only a small box room, I decided to paint three of the walls white to keep it light and airy and introduce colour on just one feature wall. I also discovered decorating (painting) isn’t my forte – that cutting into the corners lark is a bit of a bugger with bad eyesight and a not so steady hand. Get ya sunnies ready…

Cerise as cerise can be!

I wanted a kind of ‘boudoir’ feel to the room so had decided on Louis style chairs.
