Stay Gold …

“Nature’s first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold. Her early leafs a flower, but only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf, so Eden sank to grief. So dawn goes down to day, nothing gold can stay” Robert Frost

November nights are drawing in. It’s icy cold outside and dark by 4pm. Its officially ‘life by candle light’ time of year.

My favourite.

Don’t you think candle light makes everything look and feel so much more beautiful; magical even. It creates a lovely ambience

[ It drives the BF mental, plays on his chest apparently – an ailment that appears to effect a lot of men …. mmmm]

In a few weeks it will be joined by the glow of the Christmas tree, an angel and a single string of fairy lights that will dance around the fireplace.

Late afternoon everyday on channel 5 its Christmas movie-time. When I can, I make sure everything’s completed before I settle down with my coffee [ preferably loaded with Baileys // or Bally Castle the Aldi cheaper dupe ] and lose myself for an hour or so.

The living room descends into darkness, the flicker of candles and smell of coffee fills the air.

I melt into the arm chair, into pure escapism. I’m temporarily transported back. I’m a young, carefree girl and I believe. I believe in the magic of Christmas, I believe in Santa.

Gold.

I absolutely love Christmas; but this year I’m not running at it with my usual gusto. The usual excited anticipation has been replaced with a sense of the unexpected, dread even. Mums not here for the first time in my 46 years and the thought terrifies me.

I’m fading ,

tarnished…

I am however in my usual up-beat way going to try and enjoy the moments. Ok last week I had a major melt-down. Last week was a bastard. Last week reality hit me like a tonne of bricks and it hurt. A lot.

This is a new week.

A new mind-set.

My heart might not be in it but I intend to decorate the house, write the cards , eat the mince pies. Like I keep quoting … ‘stay gold’ Continue reading

All the joys of spring …

It’s that time of year when I start to think about booking a holiday somewhere faraway, a new place to discover which is hopefully very HOT!

It’s that time of year I tell myself I really should start to diet incase I book the afore-mentioned holiday and have to bear the old bod.

God forbid it’s any time soon I look like a bloody beached whale! [ one that’s in need of a desperate slick of false tan and some serious toning up]

It’s the time of year I long for and envisage the sun on my face [wearing nothing less than factor 50+ of course ]

It’s the time of year that I actually make an effort and shave my legs ! It’s been a while. I’m not sure ‘leg hair plaits’ are a thing … just yet !

It’s the time of year when snow drops and daffodils start randomly popping up , the sun rears it lovely head [occasionally] and little lambs are spotted jumping playfully around the fields. [ this is the very reason I stopped eating lamb, I could never quite get that image out of my head. It kinda spoilt my meat and two veg! ]

This week we actually experienced a couple of days of sunshine and you know what … it felt good. It actually felt like spring had sprung.

So what better way to carry on the spring  feeling than with a session of laughter yoga at Meadowhall.

Which is exactly what Sue & I did  this morning.  Continue reading

Marbella Diaries – Day 2

One by one we  started re-surfacing from our beds. We made our way down to the terrace in various states of ‘bed-head’ to enjoy our breakfast alfresco.

Isn’t that one of the best things you can do …eat and drink in the sunshine, without fear of sudden rain?

I love England but the weather … crikey it’s enough to make you want to pack your bags and never come back. Could do better!

Oh and I officially make THE best coffee ( if I say so myself)

Traceys Catchup …Afternoon Tea and the Magician

I bounded into December with a swing in my step, excitable and looking forward to the month that lie ahead… only to be struck down with the dreaded lurg 5 days in!

Lack lustre, snotty, very much death warmed up, after nights of no sleep and with the tendency to have a coughing fit at-least twice a day. I coughed so hard I pulled a muscle in my stomach. Not the ideal way to start my birthday month and Christmas build-up.

I eventually resorted to the doctors last Friday who gave me a weeks course of anti-biotics to fix my chest infection. 3 days in and I’m feeling much better!

I watched my first Christmas movie of the year yesterday  ‘Deck the Halls’ I shed a little tear and got that warm fuzzy feeling inside. I wrote some Christmas cards and I’m drinking Baileys 24/7 – to be honest this has been the case all month even when I felt rubbish.

I’ve definitely got my Christmas mojo back!

Last night a few of us met up at Eten Cafe, York Street in Sheffield for Afternoon Tea with added fizz.

CHRISTMAS 2014 007 Continue reading
