8 0 ‘s M A K E U P | inspired by Stranger Things

Last Thursday evening I was invited to see ‘Stranger Things’ at the Secret Cinema in London with M.A.C Cosmetics [ part of a paid partnership ] and to attend a couple of Fashion Shows the following day as part of London Fashion Week.

I packed my bags, happy at the prospect of leaving Sheffield for a couple of days and heading down to the ‘big smoke’

London is always fun and I’ve become quite fond of the 2 hour train journey down where all I do is sit, drink coffee, munch on chocolate bars , contemplate life … and read.

Yes folks you heard correctly I am back reading ‘ Feel the Fear and do it anyway‘ … because I was doing all those things !

It’s immersive cinema and in all honesty I wasn’t sure what to expect? We weren’t told were it was. We were Just informed that a taxi would pick us up at the hotel and drop us off . A guide would meet us at the other end and take us across to the secret location. I was intrigued already!

As soon as I entered the ‘cinema’ it felt as though I had been transported back to Hawkins. To be exact 4th July , 1985. If you are not familiar with Stranger Things Hawkins is the town in which the series is set.

Your mobile phone and camera are confiscated as you enter the cinema so there are no photos or instagram moments from the night. It felt very bizarre but I guess it’s so it keeps it intriguing and doesn’t spoil it for anyone else.

It’s actually a grand idea; it makes you feel ‘in the moment‘ . As you are not stopping every few minutes to record something on your phone you can just enjoy the experience.

It really was like being back in 1985 when mobiles didn’t even exist !

BEAUTY | Getting my Glow On …

I firmly believe your skin is a great indicator of your current health and general well-being . I’ve made no secret of the fact I was feeling down as the first years anniversary of my mums death drew closer.

Which took me back to last year. About a month after we lost mum I had a horrendous breakout. Lots of lumpy, tender skin on my jawline accompanied by thousands of white heads. … and I mean thousands. I would get rid of them but they kept reappearing. The little blighters!

I’m not sure if it was coincidence but just like back then I broke out again. My mood and my skin felt sad. It was lack lustre, bumpy with angry spots brewing under its surface; you know I’ve looked better and at my age I was feeling very much “why me? I’m 47 and suffered all my life. Go bloody away” I came to the conclusion that my skin had gone into mourning and it needed some TLC …

As I often review Beauty products it’s not unusual for me to chop and swap my products around. I had not changed anything drastically so couldn’t even blame that

I decided the best thing to do was to pair my routine right back, look into supplements and go back to basics – drinking lots of water, good nights sleep etc.

My skin didn’t clear up over night. I had a few weeks of frustration as my skin seemingly got ALOT worse before it got better BUT I am happy to report that I am currently spot free. My skins looking ‘nice’ and while I’ll never be 100% happy I am pleased with my current routine.

I’ve decided to share the products I’ve been using starting with cleansers:

BEAUTY | ANEW Ultimate Infinite Effects Night Treatment Cream

It was like a sign … a sign that my mum was watching over me. Having been an Avon lady for most of my childhood I swear she sent this opportunity my way. I know I sound like a fruit-bat but I got a little teary.

I was so thrilled to have even been considered. Avon is one of those companies that’s always been around and you trust them. My Gran used it , my Mum swore by it and I dabble every now and again. So when Avon approached me to try out the new night cream how could I say no?

Vionic Leopard Feet … getting feet summer ready

It’s that time of year when I reluctantly have to shave my legs. It’s not that I enjoy being compared to a hairy mammoth . I honestly just can’t be arsed.

It’s a faff too far.

Talking of faffing. I will then have to  false tan myself. Some people like to embrace their paleness . Me … well I like to look like a sultana!

False tanning usually results in stripey legs and bright orange palms!

Everywhere else applies like a dream but when it comes to my legs it’s a totally diferent ball-game. If I was a cafe I’d be called ‘Streaky patchy central’

No matter how much I wash my hands my palms always remain a slight tinge of orange.

I need to invest in some tanning gloves and moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!

Something I do enjoy [ good faffing let’s say] is preparing my feet … making them look all pretty for the forth-coming  ‘sandal days’ the anticipation of the beach , of BBQ’ S and fun in the sun.

I love bright toe nails, tanned legs and feet adorned in beautiful sandals.

In an ideal world I’d surround my bath tub with candles and light them to create ambiance. I’d then jump in making sure there were lots and lots of bubbles.  Continue reading
