L O C K D O W N | diaries day 24

I was thinking. It happens I’ve found during lockdown a lot more than usual. Time, too much time at times … to think, reflect , make lists and plans for when ‘normal’ resumes. That is if and when it ever does?

Today I was a little stuck for any words.

.
Time 1 – Words nil points.
.
Mundane , ‘groundhog day’ life had gotten the better of me,  left me feeling rather uninspired. After almost 4 weeks in ‘lock down’ I guess it was inevitable? Then I remembered something my mum would say “there’s a story in every situation …and  if there isn’t just make one up” I looked up to the bluest, happiest sky I’ve witnessed in a while, waved at mum [it’s our thing ] and had a little smile to myself
.
In months, years to come we will look back on these strange times and we will share our stories . Our bittersweet memories of a time when for some of us life stood still but at the same time carried on
.
They’ll be tales of disastrous home schooling and amazing homemade banana bread . Neither on my part ; I don’t have kids, and I definitely don’t bake! One day I’ll tell you the story about the exploding eggs … nearly bloody blinded myself. See just like mum said a story for everything . I was cooking then!
.
Of a time when community pulled together and the tradition of clapping for our amazing NHS / carers started. A time when we socially distanced ourselves from each other yet never felt so close?
.
Of Dereck the local swan [whose actually a duck] ; the swan-duck we rescued that didn’t need rescuing! They’ll be memories of rainbows of hope in windows up and down the country and Tom the 99 year old war veteran who raised millions of pounds by walking around his garden . A year of cancelled plans, disappointment and if like me you were born  in 1970 not quite the 50th year you had envisaged. But a year were the birds regained their song, nature thrived, the air seemed cleaner and we all saw the beauty in the everyday
.
There will be stories of survival , of hero’s & heroines on the frontline and inevitably those of sadness and a certain helplessness for all the lives lost . Nearly 16k in the UK as of last night.
.
It might not be the 2020 we envisaged but it will be laid down in stone and no doubt talked about for many years to come. A moment in history … our moment in history
.
What will your story be ?
