As your aware , or maybe your not – I shouldn’t make such assumptions – I’ve just returned from a fabulous long weekend in Malaga with 4 of my best friends. We try and have a few days away every year .. and apart from the ‘wedding and baby years’ we’ve managed to achieve this!

We have experienced an amazing few days which flew by far too quickly. I’m missing those ladies already. I don’t think I’ve laughed so much in ages and it’s just what I needed ! Roll on next year.

There’s so much to tell you I thought I’d split the blog into a few posts starting with accommodation . Lots of you messaged me for details after seeing my posts over on Instagram stories … so here goes.

We found the accommodation through Airbnb ; it is absolutely stunning.

Located right on the beach front you are literally a stones throw away from the sea. Waking up each morning to the sound of the sea lapping onto the shore is wonderful and something I will miss. It’s so relaxing and therapeutic! I need to move nearer to the sea.

The beach house has recently been renovated and is tastefully furnished. It sleeps 6 easily without the feeling that you are on top of each other. There is one double bed, 2 singles and a sofa bed which also sleeps 2. I had the sofa bed [all to myself] and can report back that it’s very comfy !

There are a couple of bathrooms , a small living-come dining / kitchen area and my favourite part of the house, an outdoor eating area-terrace. There is also a roof top terrace with amazing views of the beach and the mountains.

I’m trying to think of any negatives as I want to give you the full picture – the positives as-well as the negatives but honestly … I’m finding it hard to find any.

Some of the girls said the shower room smelt a little drainy at certain times. I personally never experienced this. You also have to go up several flights of stairs to enter the property and then again to get up to the roof terrace. If your not steady on your legs or find stairs difficult it could be a problem.

I’m getting really trivial here but there were only 3 mugs between 5 of us so we had a fight over who got a mug of coffee in the mornings! No biggy really just do what Rachel did most mornings and make yourselves two tea-cups full!

The beach house is located in one of the most exclusive places of the city of Málaga: Pedregalejo.

Playa de Pedregalejo – Las Acacias, in Malaga, is found between the Baños del Carmen and Playa de El Palo. It’s a 10 minute drive from the airport; despite this we never heard or saw any planes. The wind was the only thing that kept us awake during our ‘nana naps’ as it beat against and rattled the metal blinds.

It is known as the student area and the beach is lined with lively bars and restaurants. You’ll never be stuck for somewhere to eat / or drink. It’s child friendly with kids welcome in all the restaurants.

With its dark sand, the beach goes on forever – it spans 1,200 metres in length and 20 metres in width. It is protected by stone breakwaters that make six small coves.

It’s a short 5 minute taxi ride into Malaga city centre which will set you back around 8 euros … If you walk like Carol and I did one morning ; a leisurely [if very hot] stroll is free and would take you just over an hour.

Eating, Drinking and Amenities around the Beach House:

There is a chemist literally a few minutes walk from the house. It’s located on the main road where the taxi will most likely drop and pick you up.

The local Super Market is a little further away. I’d say it’s about a 15 minute leisurely stroll again along the same main road. It is fully stocked with everything you will need.

Santa Rita

Is a lively bar and restaurant. I can thoroughly recommend it . The Nachos are very good , the beers even better and the staff are surprisingly chirpy.

El Machina

Situated directly underneath the house , we went for breakfast one morning.

Karen and I had a smoothie [The Bull ] followed by pancakes with Nutella, banana and strawberries. Ours was delicious. The others weren’t so lucky.

You’ll find a lot of the staff in the restaurants around this area speak very limited English and there’s no English translation on the menu – it can get very confusing at time. I might be in the minority here but personally I love this … I like to feel I’m abroad when I’m abroad. I don’t want a full English and a cup of tea thrust at me by Dave from Essex . I want tapas, grilled sardines and a chilled Spanish beer from Miguel. The fact there’s hardly any English people staying in Malaga was even better…

Saying that the staff could have been slightly friendlier, you know an actual smile rather than snarling at us would have gone down a treat.

La Tortuga

Was always busy when we walked past which didn’t surprise me. It serves a great selection of cocktails and snacks and has a really nice vibe to it . We called in a few times during our stay.

The Cherry Mojito is a must have and was rather moreish !

There are loads more places to eat and drink that we didn’t get to sample. If you did decide to stay around here you’d never be short of places to wine and dine yourselves. You’ll also be pleasantly surprised at the prices … compared to other major Spanish cities I’ve stayed in … Barcelona and Valencia I’m looking at you [ and Marbella ] it’s comparatively cheaper.

If I had to give the accommodation and the surrounding area a mark out of 10, it would definitely have be a big fat 10/10… I kinda didn’t want to share it as I fear I’ll never be able to get booked into the house again … but I’m nice like that and have.
