“Under certain circumstances there are few hours more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.” Henry James – Portrait of a Lady
I’ve always fancied myself as a Lady… lady of the manor, not lady of the night!
Those of you who have followed us for a while may recall that during the peak of mums cancer treatment I took her out for Afternoon Tea to cheer her up . She was fed up and deserved a treat.
Having been given the all clear and looking and feeling better than she has for a long time, I decided that yesterday the suitably re-named for the day Lady Sybil and Lady Mary would go the manor and partake in some tea.
Not exactly a manor but very fitting , our choice of venue, was the 4-star, grade 2 listed building The Royal Victoria Hotel in Sheffield city centre.
We donned our gladdest glad rags and arriving early made our way to the Grand Lounge for drinks… No exactly lady drinks by hey some would say where not exactly ladies!
At 1.00pm we were led to Cunninghams Restaurant for Afternoon Tea for 2 which included a large Hendricks Gin & Tonic.
It arrived … looking almost too good to eat .Wow. I said almost If you’ve ever met mum and I you will know that this banquet didn’t stand a chance. We demolished it all.
Meet Lady Sybil …
and Lady Mary – my beautiful mum.
We made our way through a choice of finger sandwiches, a delicious selection of salmon & crème cheese, egg & cress and ham.
We then moved onto the scones with jam and Cornish clotted cream.
Mum wears full length dress and cardigan both from Wallis.
I’m wearing dress and statement necklace both from H & M. Mum spotted the dress and having had a similar one herself when she was younger , insisted I try it on. Lets just say it was love at first try on. It will be ideal for my weekend away to Lanzarote in a few weeks!
Suitably stuffed we managed to squeeze in these delicious fancies
All washed down with a delicious Gin & Tonic.
I have to confess that I’m not really a Gin & Tonic kind of girl , my mum however is probably made up of 75% G&T ! She could never understand what I didn’t like. After yesterdays tipple I can safety say its growing on me – Hendricks Gin sure is yummy and very refreshing, especially with a slice of cucumber.
Stuffed to busting but very happy we retired to the residents bar for a rather large cheeky glass of wine before heading home.
We had a lovely civilised afternoon, chatting , eating and drinking with lots of laughing in beautiful surroundings. I actually think I may have been a little abit tipsy , which is never a bad thing. It also great to see mum back to her old self.
We had Hendricks Afternoon Tea for 2 which normally costs £32.00, however I got ours via a Groupon deal at just £17.00. Its always worth looking out for these as you can get some great deals.
Fed and watered to our hearts content we sadly put our alter ego’s Lady Mary and Lady Sybil away for the day promising ourselves that they would come out to play again VERY soon…

Ritz London is the perfect place for such delights when your venturing down south again…
The weekend has already began! Have a fab one Tracey x
One is in admission of recognising that Lady Sybill in her own right leaves Mel Sykes and her “By ‘eck” comment in the famous boddingtons advert with that glass of Stella Artois in the shade!
Eye capturing photography, the camera never lies so no requirement to confirm Lady Sybill is genetically blessed!
It’s always a welcoming thought when capturing a moment on camera actually makes your mouth water!
(I’m talking about the delightful food)
