Ladies that Lunch | The New Lunchtime Menu at The Botanist, Sheffield

“The writer is a mysterious figure, wandering lonely as a cloud, fired by inspiration, or perhaps a cocktail or two.”

Cake, cocktails and good company are three things that make me happy.

I might not have got cake but I got the later two when I was invited along to The Botanist for a Bloggers Lunch earlier this week to sample the new lunch menu.

Cocktails for me came in the form of Gin & Rhubarb Old Fashioned , just the one as I was driving.

It came in a short glass with just a slice of lemon and ice for garnish and was extremely strong. It’s a cocktail I would order again without a doubt [ just not when I was driving !]

Good company came in the way of Rach [ my wingman ] and a group of lovely Sheffield bloggers and their plus ones. It was great to eventually meet some familiar faces.

Our host Megan made a lovely job of decorating the table complete with red roses and name cards.

It was totally instagrammable.

I’ve visited and spoken a couple of times  before about The [ beautiful ] Botanist; how magical a place it is . You can read moreHERE// HERE

Below Bloggers doing what bloggers do best … photographing our drinks!

We surveyed the new lunch menu. I was having a major hot-flush and was thankful for the jugs of water in the center of the table. I’d normally blame my ever impending menopause but on this occasion it was the start of a horrible head cold.

I read, pondered and slugged water like it had gone out of fashion.

The lunch menu consisted of various salads, sandwiches and sides which all sounded right up my street.

  • A sandwich // or salad plus 1 side -£7.50
  • A sandwich // or salad plus 2 sides – £9.50

I decided to have Houmous and Crunchy Flat Bread Wrap with Fresh Spinach and Rach had Beer Battered Cod Flatbread Wrap with Tomato Jam and Tartare Sauce.

We were brought out random sides with our main so we could put them into the middle of the table to share.

We received Sweet Potatoe Fries with Piri Piri Salt and Sweet Chilli Slaw.

The Sweet Chilli Slaw deserves a shout-out of it’s own as it was delicious! Definitely mine and Rach’s favourite side.

The cheesy chips were a close second.

Chips n cheese eh … that takes me back. The good old days staggering out of Isabella’s at daft O’clock on a weekend, and heading straight up to Chubbys for the essential ‘soak up the alcohol chips n cheese’

If your under 25 you’ll probably have no idea what the hell I’m taking about. To enlighten you – Isabella’s was THE best club in Sheffield [ after Monday nights at Josephines]

Chubby’s was … just Chubby’s …fast, dirty food [ that you’d probably not eat sober] and the place the partying tended to continue.  In fact I have a sneaky suspicion it might still be there?

Anyway I digress…

My wrap was the healthy option and very tasty. I definitely made a good choice for once. I’m usually the one slathering over my partners option!

I loved the combination of the houmous and the crunchy veg. I have a thing about raw carrots … and there were raw carrots a plenty.

When the meals first came out I thought the portions looked quite small, however combined with the side it was surprisingly filling.

It’s a light lunch , nothing too heavy, nothing too fancy … it’s enough to satisfy the biggest appetites while not leaving you feeling stuffed and sleepy. Let’s face it feeling sleepy at 2 pm is a no no.

If I brought my boyfriend along however I would suggest he take the 2 sides option for an extra £2.00 … he does take some filling up!

We washed it all down with a hot beverage. I had a Cappuccino and Rach had a pot of tea.

I do love a mismatched tea set. It’s so retro.

All in all it was a lovely light and hearty lunch.

Good food, good conversation, great surroundings – all make Tracey happy!

The lunch time menu is available Monday to Friday 12 – 4 pm and it gets ‘The Ladies that Lunch’ seal of approval.

I might see you there soon?

Tracey x

*This post is not sponsored , however the meal was complimentary. Thank you to Megan and the lovely guys at The Botanist for organizing a great lunch. As always words and opinions are all my own.
