LIFE | 47 things I’ve learnt in my 47 years

It suddenly dawned on me today that I am 48 in a-round-about a month [15th December if you’re contemplating sending a card] … or as the BF keeps reminding me – You are 50 in 2 years!

Firstly how the bloody hell did that happen; it only seems two minutes since my 40th which I celebrated in some style if I say so myself. I can party hard when I set my mind to it. I love nothing better than letting loose and having a good time. My celebrations dragged out over a whole 3 weeks and included amongst lots of other things a weekend in Manchester with the girls, The Kings Of Lyon at Sheffield Arena, lots of family and work meals / nights out. Lots and lots of champagne and cake.

40th Birthday celebrations in full swing

Well you are only 40 once…

I thought it might be fun today to  list ‘47 things I’ve learnt in my 47 years’… some serious, some silly … If I can muster that many up that is.

I’m older but definitely [when it comes to somethings] not wiser. I still feel like a child at times and I’m constantly evolving… which for some bizarre reason makes me sound like a chuffing monkey.

So here goes …

LIFE | Halloween, horror films and I …

Horror [ hawr-er] –

an overwhelming and painful feeling caused by something frightfully shocking, terrifying or revolting; a shuddering fear

I watched my first ever horror film with my Mum.

It was Salems Lot which by todays standards is probably really rather tame. My first introduction to Vampires and the living dead. It starred David Soul who my Mum had a soft spot for, I guess in the same way I do about Bradley Cooper.

I’m not sure what either one of us was thinking as we both had very vivid and over-active imaginations. I can remember being huddled on the settee together, the slightest noise freaking us both out. I can remember I wanted a wee but daren’t leave my mums side. I can remember Dad coming home from the pub and scaring us both to death. I can also remember the amazing adrenaline rush being scared gave me, but also the sleepless nights it led too.

Arsey me … never ! Blogger rambles and reviews

I don’t get arsey a lot.

Ok I do , I really do. Who am I kidding? I’m telling porkie pies. Little  things niggle me, stupid little things.

One of the most annoying misconceptions and one that keeps cropping up at the moment is that bloggers get stuff for free.

Your probably sat nodding in agreement thinking but yes they do!

I had this conversation yesterday with some guy over on twitter who was  really peeved off that his Instagram feed was just like [ his words] “one big advert for stuff bloggers had received for free”

I had to initially question why he was following a boat-load of beauty and fashion bloggers [odd guy probably ‘gets off’ while scrolling  ]

I suggested he should ‘man-up’ and perhaps search for new accounts using hash-tags like #fishingtackle and #cars. Maybe follow  some of those accounts instead. People don’t tend to give cars away that regularly …. as for fishing tackle I’m not so sure ?

I had to agree an Instagram account that just posts ad after ad isn’t something that would appeal to me either.

I told him he should maybe just press the unfollow button … Instagram is after all a matter of choice.

Why follow accounts that wind you up ? Life’s really too short.

That aside I then went on to advise him that while yes some people are lucky enough to receive lots of ‘free’ stuff from brands it’s hardly free…is anything really free these days ?

You still with me?  Continue reading

Will You Not Be My Valentine…

I’m Tracey and I am a hopeless romantic…

As a youngster [ and then as not such a youngster] I loved a good romantic film – Dirty Dancing, Brief Encounter, The Way We Were … to name a few. I was also addicted to Dawsons Creek, the TV series not the wine!

I was a Joey and Pacey fan. I always found Dawson,as blokes go,a bit wet.

dawsons-creek-s4-edit

It portrayed young love so whimsically  yet as I learnt  it wasn’t remotely like that in reality ?! Not mine anyway.

Nobody ever crawled through my window late at night … you know just to lie next to me and talk because they couldn’t wait until the next day at school.

My dad would have strung them up for one…

Saying that…  I actually did have  somebody crawl through my window late at night once but only because I’d come home pissed, fell asleep and locked my brother out of the house. His small and flexible friend [ I think his nick-name was quite appropriately Monkey man] had to shimmy the wall and seeing my bedroom window was slightly a jar crawled through. Giving me a major heart attack in the process.

Nobody ever said anything remotely like this to me…

“Shes so beautiful that when you look at her your knees tremble, your heart melts and you know, without reservation, that there is order and meaning to the universe”

PACEY WITTER, “Cinderella Story” (2000)

Mine was more along these lines …

“You’re alreight you are, shall we grab some chips and cheese and maybe a cheeky snog?”

Tracey’s catch up post – dishy doctors , dating agency’s and treats !

Hello it’s been a while since we had a chat… so what’s new?

The spa day at Moddershall Oaks last Saturday was fabulous ( see previous post) however since then I’ve been struck down by a strange illness which has resulted in me being off work sick for the majority of the week. To cut a long story short I ended up at the Northern General Hospital at 4.00am Wednesday morning with suspected appendix problems. A wee sample later, lots of questions and prodding ruled this out. To be honest I’m not sure anybody really knows what’s up with me but I’m being treated for a severe kidney infection. It’s blinking painful I can tell you. There is always a silver lining; despite rocking up to surgery like death warmed up with ridiculous hair ( I’ve looked better) … My doctor was deliciously handsome and yes I admit that even doubled up in pain and in the sake of vanity I did slip some lip gloss on when he disappeared out of the room for 2 minutes. Not that he would have noticed … He probably couldn’t see past my hair. Stuck up like a bloody toilet brush it was!

I was so happy to see my friend Rachel yesterday afternoon. She called into see me with supplies of Minstrels , a big hug and proper conversation. A proper person! As always we got around to talking about men. I’m 43 and still don’t understand the male species. Do any of us? We got to thinking that in the new year when my head was more together joining a dating agency might be an idea / fun? Mmmm juries out on that one … I’m not so sure but I’ll consider it. It’s not that I’m desperate I just miss male company. My cats are fabulous but the conversation is very one way! Rach suggested I write down what I wanted In a man and to not settle for second best. Ha ha this should be fun …

Tall. I’m 5ft 10 so it’s important . I once dated a small guy , he was lovely but the constant stooping gave me a bad back and I missed my heels! Dark haired and handsome . Im so predictable. A mixture of Bradley Cooper and Kit Atherington ( Jon Snow- Game of Thrones) with Harry Style esq. hair and Ed Sherans singing voice. Good sense of humour with the ability to laugh at themselves. Exquisite manners. I’m very old fashioned and do like a door opening for me ! Saying that I don’t think anybody has ever opened a door for me in my life but the thought of it is rather nice. Rocks a suit like Tom Ford but looks equally as good in jeans … Wants to romance me and doesn’t expect sex on the first date!

Yep … I’m going to be single forever! Perhaps it would be easier to get another cat …

I got another lovely surprise yesterday. I’ve recently started following an artist on IG – @pomo_fi .We got chatting and he asked if he could edit one of my pics. I said yes of course not expecting to hear anything . He gifted it to me yesterday.

What do you think? It’s amazing isn’t it. If your on IG you really should check out the rest of his gallery . It has also solved one of my Christmas pressie dilemmas. I showed mum yesterday. She loved it. I’m going to get it printed and framed for her. Voila !! She’s been hassling me for a photo for the wall for ages, so hopefully this will go down a treat.

Lastly and mainly because I’ve been feeling sorry for myself I made a few purchases from my sick-bed this week. Being Poorly is lethal on your purse!

I love this dress from Little Mistress. Its the colour that first attracted me. I also love the back detail. Having short hair it’s something I look for – a nice rear view.
I’ve only recently discovered this site but it’s well worth a look. I could have spent a fortune.

I’ve also treated myself to a little bling from YOSA, another fab site which is well worth a visit .This necklace is called Heritage. I saw , I fell in love , I ordered. Lovely isn’t she and a steal at £16. I can’t wait to get my hands on her.

IMG_6845.PNG
So there you go, that just about sums up my week. Dishy doctors, dating websites, sickness and new purchases.

What have you all been up to ? I’d love to hear…
