Introducing – Turtle Bay to Sheffield

At the end of May I got invited along to the press night of the newest ‘eating and drinking spot’ to hit Sheffield – Turtle Bay on Holly Street, which is next to the City Hall. Turtle Bay is a chain of Caribbean restaurants that are scattered all around the country.

It was a great evening, spent with lots of fellow bloggers; drinking rum cocktails and sampling the food. I did come away slightly deaf as the live band where extremely loud. I found myself shouting to get heard on more than one occasion .

Ey’ up it’s ‘Nana Tracey’ here!

Ladies that Lunch |Dine Sheffield …

Dine Sheffield 15th to 29th March 2018 – Celebrate dining in Sheffield with a fortnight of fantastic offers

It’s like music to my ears. You all know I’m happiest when I’m eating… and if you didn’t. I am.

Dine Sheffield is a flagship initiative for Sheffield BID’s Alive After Five strategy, which is helping to boost the economy by promoting a new early evening experience through retail, entertainment, food and drink.

Sounds good eh? …

From world cuisine to pub grub, café favourites and fine dining, some of Sheffield city centre’s favourite eateries have signed up to Dine Sheffield

With over 40 establishments getting involved there is surely something to cater for everyone’s palette.

‘The Ladies that Lunch’ [ Sue and I ] were given the opportunity to try one of the deals for ourselves.

We plumped for the ‘Two burgers for £15.00’ at The 8 Oz Burger Company . It’s a restaurant I’ve spotted a few times ; with its large glass frontage and warm glow resonating from within it looks inviting, somewhere I’d like to go. Plus I do love a good burger!

You know those voices I hear [occasionally] that whisper “try me, try me, you know you want too ” especially when I’m around cake they happen when I walk past here too.

Frost / Nixon at The Crucible Theatre

I feel like I’ve not really spoken to you much recently [ missed me?] but I’m back today to rectify that with a lovely little theatre review.

Don’t get excited folks , well DO actually because what I’m reviewing is fabulous.

I mean I’m no ‘fancy talking’ theatre reviewer. I’m just your average ‘Joe Soap’ who happens to love the theatre. I suppose we ultimately do the same thing … I’m just less ‘lovey darling’ and more Pulps Common People. This is one of the main reasons why I LOVE the theatre ; it appeals to all. There’s no snobbery. It’s pure escapism.

Last night the lovely Ellie invited myself and my plus one, Jo, to a bloggers event she was hosting . It’s the first one The Crucible have put on and Ellie did them proud.

If your not familiar with Sheffield let me enlighten you.

Travel | Lanzarote Holidays …

It’s on days like today when [ I’m a little hungover] it’s cold and dark outside, I’ve got my candles lit and I’m snacking on mince pies. When I have a Christmas movie playing on repeat and I’m making present lists that my mind starts drifting towards holidays.

Planning and reminiscing.

Reminiscing and planning…

Thoughts of visiting and exploring far off places with the sun beating down on my back , sand between my toes and a cocktail to hand spring to mind. They excite and lift my spirits.

One place basking in glorious sunshine all year round and a place I’ve visited on a couple of occasions in the past is the wonderful island of Lanzarote.

Making up part of the Canary Islands, it is often said to resemble the surface of the moon [ not that I’ve even been to the moon! ] thanks to the fact it was once an active volcanic island. It is extremely scenic in places with beautiful views in each and every direction; a photographers dream.

Now I have to hold my hands up and admit that although it is breathtaking ; on my very first visit I was slightly unimpressed by the journey from the airport to our hotel . All I can say is please don’t be disheartened the resorts are beautiful !

Lanzarote holds such fond memories. I’ve just been looking through my photos and stumbled across some proper corkers.

Take this for one.

Meet Kevin !! Boy did we laugh …he goes on a lot of girls holidays with us. [ though it’s not always the same Kevin, we tend to puncture him a lot!]

Lunch with Marco Pierre White …

Sometimes I have to pinch myself at some of the opportunities I’ve been given this year via my little blog.

I’ve appeared on local radio, attended some fabulous launches, had a makeover by one of Charlotte Tilburys top MUA and now I’ve got another goodie, and a first, to add to the list.

Can you imagine my surprise and delight when I received an email earlier in the week asking whether I would like to attend the new menu launch at Marcos New York Italian Restaurant in Sheffield and  wait for it … to meet Marco Pierre White in person.

I didn’t have to think about it for long!

So that’s where I tootled off too yesterday afternoon. I almost cancelled at the last-minute due to mums health taking a turn for the worse but even on her hospital sickbed she insisted that I didn’t cancel , that she’d be ‘ever so mad’ if I didn’t attend.

So not to disappoint her … and because I was really looking forward to it off I popped with my ‘ladies that lunch’ partner Sue as my plus one.

Ladies that Lunch tapas style and some lovelies …

If you follow me on Instagram. [ if your not … why ever not?] you’ll be aware that I’ve not been too good. I’ve ‘tweaked’ my chuffing back.

It’s getting easier but I’m still moaning shuffling around [ like I’ve pooped my pants for want of a better description]

It’s been pure agony at times.

After a week in sensible shoes, sporting a pained face, cursing under my breath, cursing not so under my breath and feeling very drab I’ve just met my friend for lunch in a frilly little dress complete with heeled boots.

Big heels. Make that big feck off heels. Not the brightest idea but like mum says “when has that ever stopped you!?”

We had tapas for lunch at the aptly named Tapas Revolution a Spanish Bar and Cafe in Meadowhall. It was a pleasant surprise; a lot better than I’d anticipated.

*whispers* It’s in a food court for  gods sake.

I envisaged screaming kids, football shirts and too cool for school teenagers . I couldn’t imagine it being very personal and expected our food to be thrown at us. [ ok …hands up I’m an over dramatic snob!] Continue reading

The best [and worst]bits – Bar,Beauty ,Style, Life …

LIFE …

I’m not going to lie to you my mojo is shot. I feel as though  I’ve aged 10 years , and then some, overnight [ which at my age isn’t good]

Truth be known I’m a big blubbering mess.

The news mums cancer is back has hit us all for 6 and we are trying to get our heads around it, while remaining strong … for mum.

It’s bloody hard.

Of course I worry constantly about mum. I also worry about dad, I worry about my brother. I worry about my BF. I selfishly worry about myself.

I’m still processing the news which is tough because I quite honestly don’t want to. When I do it means it’s real and I don’t want it to be real.

Reality sucks.

Fecking cancer …

Hopefully it’s treatable but only time will tell. It’s shit, I feel helpless. I hate that my beautiful mum is ill again.

I find writing helps [and walking] , so normal service will carry on… for the time-being anyway. It might just be a bit more rambly than usual.

I might cry , so it’s a good job this isn’t being written on paper ! [ just wipe the screen]

With that in mind and to stop me thinking about mum for a while … here’s a post detailing some of my favourite products and what I’ve been up to this /last month. Continue reading
