S H E F F I E L D | Gin experience at Locksley Distilling

By my own admission I’ve always been a whisky kinda lady.

Then Mum got cancer…

We would have our girlie afternoons , sit and sip coffee together, chit-chat about everything and nothing. On occasion the coffee would be substituted by a large Gin and Tonic.

I didn’t really like Gin back then, I didn’t hate it either … I just didn’t dabble. It sounds daft but drinking it together made me feel even closer to her … like we were bonding over her favourite tipple. Continue reading

“The sun I’ll come out tomorrow … bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow sun will shine !” Yes I’m going all orphan Annie on you but by god this weather is absolutely amazing.

It’s Saturday afternoon, I’m laid melting into one of our garden loungers. I’m on my third Gin & Tonic. Don’t judge me … it’s only 2 o clock but I need to keep cool. I guess water would be preferable [and more sensible] … but not so much fun!

As always I’m fully factored up . I love the sun but the not the idea of the damage it could potentially cause.

Once upon a time my friends and I would lie on the beach in the tiniest of bikinis , wearing zero sun-protection and slather ourselves in oil … like the stuff you cook chips in. I’m not joking – tanning back then was all about how dark you could go and not about protecting your skin. I once burnt so badly my shoulders erupted in water blisters and I’ve had sun-stroke enough times to write a book . I was the colour of a Conker yes … but it was painful to say the least . I shudder to think about the damage I have caused myself.

Older and wiser I now wear an SPF every single day … even on days when it’s miserable and cold outside.

Gin, Gin and oh yes more Gin …#ginfestival

Before I continue I have a confession to make.

I don’t drink Gin.

It may surprise you to learn then that I attended the Gin Festival Saturday evening in Sheffield. What can I say I’m a fake, I’m a fraud , I’m the JD & coke lover  mingling with all these gin lovers .

Joking apart . I’m always up to try / experience new things and with over 100 gins showcasing , I thought I’d find at least one that would ‘tickle my fancy.’

Hey, several years ago I said the same about olives. Hated them with a passion – they were the work of the devil and all that. I now eat them like they’ve gone out of fashion.

I pray at the ‘Alter of the Olive’.

Plus it was chance to catch up with some friends , some who I had met through Instagram, a fellow blogger I’d never met before and Jo one of my regular ‘going out pals’

Processed with Snapseed.

Me, Jo, Sue, Caroline (who blogs over at Carterfamily4) and Sarah … with lots of Gin.
