Black is modest and arrogant at the same time. Black is lazy and easy – but mysterious. But above all black says this: I don’t bother you  – don’t bother me.” – Yohji Yamamoto

Black … one of my favourites.

Black Magic … delicious.

Black … the colour associated with death , with mortality and creatures of the night.

Black is black – I want my baby back ! [ if you know you know ]

Black … kohl pencil smudged into your water line to create a smokey eye. If it’s good enough for Kate Moss then count me in!

Amy Winehouse sang about it in her hit ‘Back to Black ‘ and chances are I’m guessing you have a little black dress , otherwise known as your LBD, lurking somewhere in your wardrobe.

My mum instilled it into me from an early age that it was something I should have in mine.

A wardrobe basic.

When you have nothing else to wear” she’d say “you could always grab your fail safe LBD” Mum came well versed she was ladies fashion-buyer at Bradfield Woollen back in the day

Looking back I guess she was right because I have fond memories of one such dress

It was black as the night and it skimmed every inch of my body. It had a gold zip feature down the back and was sleeveless ; I wore that dress to death . With a smart jacket and court shoes for work . With killer heels and lots of bling on a night out.

Easy dressing is by far my favourite.

Speaking of which , I was sent this dress by Peacocks Fashion last week. It’s a simple Bardot off-shoulder dress with faux buttons down the front. It has an elasticated waist, thin tie belt and a flirty frill to the bottom edge.

I like it. I find black really flatters the figure, it’s slimming … and thank the lord it’s machine washable.

Ideally I would like a couple of extra inches adding to the bottom . Being 5 ft 10 it’s one of the problems I face … everything I own tends to be that tincy bit too short. It doesn’t look bad though. I can live with it.

Dressed up with heels, ‘bling’ and a red lip

I give you the £16.00 Peacock Fashion dress // HERE

JD Williams T Bar Sandals – £25.00*

The great thing about this dress is that because it is very light weight, it folds up to practically nothing and it can be dressed up or down. It’s one of those ‘easy‘ dresses every wardrobe needs. I know I will wear this to death.

It would be ideal for a long weekend away when space in your carry on hand-luggage is limited.

Nothing rocket science but during holidays it could work as a great multi-tasker. On a night out dressed up with a heels and lots of bright jewellery like above.

A couple of days later you could don it to the beach where in all honesty it doesn’t really matter if it’s mucky or not. Within minutes of walking on the sand that bloody stuff is everywhere, in every crevice … and you feel dirty!

Dressed more casual with flat sandals, hat and sunglasses for a day at the beach. Mollie dog optional.

With that in mind I’ve had a little look around and selected a couple of versatile black dresses to share with and hopefully inspire you too…

So without further ado, let’s go!

As always I would love to hear ….

Oh how I love all all those references to Black at the start of this post! (Grey is grey… since you went away…!)
Your mama gave you the best advice on having an LBD; this Peacock’s one is great on you. I like the length!

Thanks for popping across Bean , it really does mean a lot. Haha my lyrics 😉
It’s not a bad length on me I guess … I would just prefer it slightly longer.

    Hi Tracey!
Come over and linkup 🙂 I’d love to have you there 🙂 Lovely picture of you and your dad. You look great in black! I do tend to steer away from black and go for grey as it is less harsh on me, but an LBD is a must ( at least one!) Love the OTS look and how you styled it dress and casual. The earrings are beautiful, I love gold danging earrings and I am sure I told you, you have the prettiest eyes! ( mine are green too 🙂

Thankyou he didn’t really want to be in it but I dragged him on . Said he felt like he was sat on the toilet!
I love black as it’s quite safe but as I’m getting older I’m also wearing more colour.
Thanks for popping across , Tracey xx
