In a few weeks myself and 5 of my favourite lady friends are venturing to Malaga for 4 nights of fun and frolics in the Spanish sun.
We have been escaping on our annual ‘girlie trips’ away every year since we were a group of spritely 17 years old ; give or take the baby years! I believe they are a necessity and are good for the soul. There is something very special about spending time with your closet friends.
This year it is a little more special as it’s one of the ladies 50th. We plan to celebrate in style while we are out there, with a fancy meal on the Saturday night, followed by lots of dancing in one of the numerous roof top bars.
It was therefore absolutely perfect timing when the lovely guys at JD Williams asked me to choose a couple of occasion-wear outfits. With birthday celebrations in mind and the possibility of York Races later in the year I choose these two outfits.
As I have mentioned on a previous post JD Williams offer a range of clothing specifically aimed with the over 45 ladies in mind , in sizes 10 to 32, which you have to agree is rather fabulous. It really is a one stop shop with something for everyone. I’m usually spoilt for choice, and choosing my outfits this time was no exception.
I fell in love with the first dress straight away.It is divine; made for shimmering in. It is unlike anything else I currently have in my wardrobe.
I think Carrie Bradshaw would approve.
Joanna Hope Beaded Tiered Boho Dress – £145.00
It is a subtle blush colour . The top half of the dress has intricate pretty beading detail and adjustable straps . The bottom half is ‘ra-ra-tastic’ with lots of taffeta ruffles.
It’s worth bearing in mind I am 5ft 10 so it will sit longer on shorter ladies. I am wearing a size 14
I teamed it with these delicate, strappy gold sandals. They are perfect.
Strappy Kitten Heeled Sandals – £20.00
I choose these particular sandals as I didn’t want anything too heavy or clumpy looking; I want the dress to do all the talking . The heel height is 2.5 inches and they are extremely comfortable which is important if you are planning on spending a lot of your time on your feet.
In contrast the second outfit I selected is a classic LBD [ Little black dress ] which I believe every wardrobe should have. A wardrobe staple.
Joanna Hope Flippy Hem Black Dress – £55.00
It is such a lovely dress which I can envisage styling in a variety of ways. I like my wardrobe to work hard.
It is fitted and has a fish-tail bottom that really emphasises my curves. If your mum gave it you – flaunt it. To add interest the back has an exposed zip.
I fluctuate between a size 12 and 14 in clothing . I am wearing a size 12 here. It clings in all the right places, but doesn’t look or feel too tight.
If you are conscious about the top of your arms [which I understand a lot of woman are ] you could always add a lacey shrug or light weight cropped jacket. I say cropped because you don’t want to hide the shape of the dress … or those curves!
Worn with these beautiful black and silver t-bar open toe sandals which come in a wide E fit and the sequin- beaded handbag … it is an understated but very chic outfit.
T Bar Peep Toe Sandals – £28.00
I adore these , I always find a t bar sandal / shoe very flattering. I will get lots of wear out of them.
Joanna Hope Embellished Grey Clutch Bag – £36.00
The simple addition of a hat or fascinator would make this outfit the ideal candidate for the races.
I just need somebody to take me now!
So there you have it, two very different outfits which could both be worn for a variety of special occasions.
I hope it’s left you feeling suitably inspired especially if you have a special event coming up shortly.
As always I’d love to hear what you think in the comments below.
Until next time, Tracey x

Thankyou for popping across Fiona and yes they are both lush dresses, but very different. I think the black one would be great for the races with a massive feature hat x
