Yep, yep , yep you heard correctly the lovely Sharon from Best Before End Date has nominated me for a Sunshine Blogger Award. A blogger to blogger award. Thankyou lovely lady
It’s such a fabulous idea and a great way to pay it forward and hopefully get some new eyes / views/ followers to our blogs.
I’m all for supporting my fellow bloggers … so here goes
Here are Sharon’s questions and my answers as follows:
1. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging 7 or 8 years ago because at the time there were no relatable blogs for 40-plus woman. It’s as though we’d been put out to pasture. 40 = old , past it , invisible . I’m sure you get my drift.
Luckily it’s not as bad nowadays but I do feel we still have some way to go.
Liz [ my then blogging and work buddy ] and I did our research and at the time the only blog we could find that was aimed at the over 40’s was written by Kat Farmer [ does my bum look 40]
Unfortunately due to both Liz and myself having demanding jobs and despite it being our ‘baby‘ it did fall to the way-side quite a lot of the time. While Kats blog took over the inter-web [ and is still going strong ] ours fizzled into thin air.
I never stopped writing … but I started again properly on the blog about 3 years ago. I love it as much or maybe more than I did back then.
It’s my voice … my little piece of the net.
2. Have you ever considered giving it up?
Yes … I think I have this conversation with myself at least once a month.
Sometimes it does feel like nobody is interested in what I have to say . I’m not particularly fashion based , although I do feature it occasionally. Fashion however is what everybody appears to be interested in [ especially on IG] I tend to talk about everything and anything. I’m very keen to spread the word that it’s the small things that matter and the latest Gucci bag won’t make you any happier than me with my Primarni special .
Instagram in particular appears to be killing blogging which I do feel is such a shame. Everybody loves to swipe; they crave the quick fix. My only fear with that is Instagram could disappear tomorrow and take all your work along with it . You may laugh but does anybody remember My Space?
I personally prefer a thought-provoking blog post any day . Unlike instagram blogs tend to not be carbon-copies of each other . Unlike instagram there is diversity. Nobodies voice is the same … thankfully .
3. Have you met any blogger friends IRL or who would you like to meet?
I have had the pleasure to meet lots of lovely ladies via my blog [and instagram].
The Sheffield blog scene is very close knit and extremely friendly. I can’t name you all but you know who you are. At times I do feel like I could be the Mum to quite a few of them but they don’t treat me any different to anyone else.
I met Kate – Pouting in Heels a few years ago. Having read and been inspired by her writing for some time it was a massive thrill and even better I’m now happy to call her a friend. Her first book is published this month and I couldn’t be more proud.
Tracey – A Snapshot of Me is another lady who is every bit as fabulous as I had imagined she would be.
The same goes for Prue – The House of Skirt … we have our own song and Leanne – Lem Loves whose just a beautiful soul and has the yoga body of my dreams. Oh and how could I forget my feisty pink haired Beauty guru Fiona – Fiona’s 50 Life
Is there anybody I’d love to meet in the blogging world ?
Does Bradley Cooper have a blog ?!
4. What’s your most proudest achievement?
There have been a few proud moments , things I’d never have been asked to do had it not been for the blog …
Being invited to meet the fabulous Marco Pierre White at his restaurant in Sheffield. Along with 3 other bloggers we got the opportunity for a 3 on 1 where we got to ask him a few questions. I figured he’d be fed up talking about food so I asked him what after shave he wore. He loved my question; stating he got fed up of talking about how to cook bacon / steak all the time!

I have appeared on Radio Sheffield ‘ Kats Kitchen’ a Saturday morning cooking programme. It was a massive thrill ! I remember I was so nervous at the time but it was fabulous and I didn’t want it to end.

Being approached to do my first paid campaign. It was with Avon UK … and it was an absolute thrill to be approached by a such a well-known house-hold brand. It was even more poignant as my mum had been a [ ding dong ] Avon lady when she was younger .
I did question why me and have my doubts. I can’t say it was pleasurable experience either as I was anxious most of the time … would they enjoy my blog, would my photos be good enough / approved . I need not have worried because they loved both. It was a massive learning curve.
5. Do you have specific goals you’d like to achieve?
I ultimately want my writing to be read by as many people as possible. For people to get something from my musings … be that inspired , have an idea or to try out something new.
I’d love my own lipstick range. I feel as though I’ve spent 40 years searching for the perfect Nude.
My ultimate goal is to write a children’s book [ I figure I’m on the same wave-length as a 5 year old ] but I’m also the queen of procrastination…so it’s not progressing very quickly. I need the Greek God of ‘you will write a children’s book‘ to give me a big kick up the bum!
And that’s all folks. Thankyou for my questions Sharon … let’s keep reading , supporting and building the blogging community back up to where it belongs !
