LIFE | Fun, Fizz, Fashion, Friends … a day at Doncaster races

Horse racing is animated roulette”  – Roger Kahn

I love a day at the horse races …

The buzz and excitement, the fabulous outfits, the fizz and of course the racing itself.

It’s a leveler too. No matter who you are, where you are from,  rich or poor… you have as much chance of being a winner on the day as the guy stood next to you and I love that.

I’ve kindly been invited to Doncaster Races for the DFS Ladies Day at the William St Ledger Festival on the 13th September and I’m already a right giddy – kipper.

Of course for us ladies , especially on Ladies Day its all about THE OUTFIT.

A few weeks ago myself and a couple of local bloggers – Jenny & Carolanne – were invited to Coast in Meadowhall were we were treated to a VIP session complete with fizz and fancies. We basically got the whole place to ourselves with the chance to dress up in anything and everything that took our fancy.

I was like a child in a candy shop. Just call me Princess Tracey!

I don’t tend to shop in Coast normally but it is somewhere I will definitely be returning too in the future. They have some absolutely beautiful outfits ideal for special events;  weddings and of course a day at the races.

I spotted quite a few dresses that I liked the look of but this is the beauty I walked away with the Charley Trim Detail Dress. I am not a big fan of changing room selfies but hopefully there will be better photos on the day.

I absolutely adore her.

She’s slinky with a swish level of 10/10 – I do love a dress that swishes when you walk. Mint is a colour I have never worn so it’s also taking me out of my comfort zone slightly.

With just under 3 weeks to go until the big day, I am currently in the process of choosing accessories – shoes, handbag and ‘something fancy ‘ for my hair. I realise its Ladies Day and the general feel is to ‘go big or go home‘, BUT I feel like I’m going to go down the subtle, classic route – a beaded hair slide maybe? I know, I know I’m rubbish…I’ll go home now.

Regards hair , mine is currently in a short bob which is too short to take up. I’m thinking for a change I may curl it … and by curl I mean give it a slight wave . If I curl it too tight I end up looking like bloody Shirley Temple.

I love these ideas below [courtesy of pinterest]

I think some of these are achievable and are giving me the inspiration I need, especially number 3.

As I mentioned earlier my dress is mint so I’m thinking along the lines of silver / metallic accessories. The lovely assistant at Coast suggested I try leopard print accessories to mix it up a bit . I love leopard print and already have a few pairs of shoes/handbags so I will give it a whirl and see.

Typically I threw a pair of silver shoes away just a few months ago that would have been ideal. However I guess this is the perfect excuse to purchase a new pair!

Leopard print or silver – what would you choose?

Apart from that I’m more or less prepared.

A couple of days before the races [in case of disasters!] I will give myself a coating of self tan. I think a slight tan will look lovely against the mint. I may even treat myself and go the whole hog by booking a manicure AND pedicure. I know – go me.

If you and your friends fancy experiencing the excitement of Ladies Day at Doncaster Races for yourselves ; information and tickets [ various packages are available] can be found // here

I can thoroughly  recommend it.

Its a great, fun day out and you never know you may win big. I never do … [unluckiest girl in the world] but hey its the taking part that’s counts, the excitement of cheering your horse on. Hopefully in the sunshine with fizz in your hand, surrounded by your best friends.

Oh and did I mention that Martin Kemp [only bloody Martin Kemp ….my first crush!] will be performing a DJ set after the days racing! Could it get any better  – It’ll pay to look good … you never know you may bump into him

Right I’m off to ‘study the form‘ as I’m sure the saying goes… and find myself a pair of  shoes.

Wish me Luck !

  • Ladies Day Entrance and my outfit from Coast were gifted in exchange for social media coverage before and on the actual day. As always all wording and opinions are strictly my own. Thank you to Side Kick PR for the kind invite.
