Shall We Spa . . . Cha Cha Cha

It’s me again … twice in one week bloody hell wonders will never seize !

Today I’m going to be introducing you to a fabulous , intimate little day spa just outside Penistone. [Hollin Lane, Millhouse Green, Sheffield S36 9NH] It’s only 20 minutes from my house.

Oh oh I have a feeling this could be dangerous.

Smallshaw Cottages & Spa is A- mazing and if you don’t already know about it then you really should.

There are 4 beautiful cottages available to rent, complete with landscaped gardens and tennis courts . Today however I am concentrating and going to take you on a tour of the Spa.

Before I go any further I just need to clarify something with you – I don’t love everything.

You probably think I do and the reason for this would be because I only accept and feature on the blog things / places / experiences that interest me; that I would do or buy myself.

I turn down a lot of opportunities [ mobile phone covers , bingo nights, clothing ] or product reviews because they simply aren’t my bag.

If you make it this far … you are loved. I have enjoyed you.

I certainly enjoyed this.

Reception is compact and beautiful in a ‘ I want my house to look like this‘ way . The spa is a year old but manages to look brand spanking new. It’s immaculately clean and the decor is extremely tasteful.

There is a full range of Temple Spa products on show along one wall which are available to purchase.

The changing rooms below are immaculate with attention to detail.

There are two large showers complete with Temple Spa products to ensure you leave looking and smelling delicious. They are also fully equipped with hairdryers and hair- straighteners.

Upon arrival I was allocated a locker which contained a big fluffy robe, flip-flops, white towel for the spa, green towel for showering afterwards and a plastic bag to put my wet costume in. Fabulous.

All I had to do was ditch my clothing and squeeze myself into my costume. I was  then good to go…

The Thermal Suite Facilities include an aromatherapy room, saunas, steam rooms, foot spas, a tropical experience shower and a Rasul mud room. It’s all very plush, spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated.

I basically want to move in.

Outside there is a decked patio area with sun loungers, a couple of lounger-swings and a hot tub. On the day I attended it was beautifully sunny; safe to say I made the most of the hot tub.

It was so tranquil . I sat looking out across the fields, contemplating life with just the sheep and blue skies for company.

I like my own company . It gives me time to reassess,  to get my mindset in order AND I can take as many photos as I want without getting nagged at for being a bore!

I have had worse Tuesday mornings …

I spent the first part of the morning flitting between here, the saunas, and foot spas. I was quite literally in heaven. I mean look at those views…

Before making my way upstairs to one of the treatments rooms for a back massage with Louise.

I’ve only ever had one masssage before [ I know how bloody rubbish am I ] and I thoroughly enjoyed it. To say I was looking forward to this was an under-statement.

I left it up to Louise to decide which massage I had . After filling in a short form listing any ailments and areas of concern I had she opted for the ‘Work It Out’ .

This is a detoxifying / muscle workout massage. It sculpts the body, relieves fluid retention and works out tired muscles using the ingenious work it out detox oil.

I obviously needed it as I was extremely stiff and tight around my shoulders.  At times although pleasurable it did hurt slightly as she hit a ‘knot’ but overall I loved it.

Afterwards I felt as though my brain had been sucked out . I was definitely ‘in the zone’ and it felt sooooo good.

‘Work It Out’ Massage

  • 30 minutes £35.00
  • 60 minutes £65.00
  • 90 minutes £95.00

I was given a card to take away with me that detailed all my therapists recommendations. These included Aaahhh, Quietitude , Work It Out and Breath of Life.

I’ve already passed it into the BF !

Suitably ‘Stepford Wifed’ [ vague, out of it but very smiley] I was taken to the Chill Out Room, which is a lovely area.

Here I had the choice of a cup of tea, coffee or a glass of Prosecco.

I choose coffee and settled down on the one of the large welcoming settees for a few minutes …

… which turned into 20.

As an added treat I then got to experience the Rasul Mud Room, which I insist you all try if you get the chance.

This is a traditional Arabian cleansing ritual that leaves you feeling wonderful , calm, exfoliated with THE Softest skin.

The lights are comforting as they dance from  green to red to white. Hence the green selfie face below!

So back to the experience …you basically apply a mineral rich mud to your face and body then sit back and relax on the heated seating.

After about 10 minutes steam gently fills the room. It is by now getting extremely warm; your pores open which allows the enriched product  to enter and stimulate the blood flow and lymphatic system .

To finish off a warm shower mist falls from the ceiling and washes away any remaining product from your skin.

The whole process takes around 30 minutes and costs £20.00 per person. It’s ideal to enjoy as a couple [ I’m already bending the Mr’s ear] or for upto 3 people.

I felt squeaky clean, revitalised and super soft afterwards. I even managed to scrub away some of the orange tan from my hands. We are almost a normal colour again!

I had a lovely, relaxing morning and can thoroughly recommend booking a 3 hour session. For £30.00 this includes full use of the Thermal Suite Facilities.

Treatments using Temple Spa products are additional.

As well as a full range of facials and massages they also offer reflexology, manicures, pedicures and waxing.

There are various packages available but one I thought was worth mentioning is SIMPLY SMALLSHAW which is £55 per person [ minimum of 10 people]

It would be ideal for hen parties, baby showers or just a girlie pamper session as the spa is exclusively yours.

Included in the package are:

3 hours of the spa experience which includes the following :

  • Robe, towel and flip-flops
  • Use of Thermal Spa
  • Seasonal Smoothie & hot towel before treatment [see below]
  • Half hour treatment , a choice of either a facial, massage or reflexology.
  • Glass of Prosecco, Bradfield Brewery Farmers Blonde or cup of Fruit Tea in the chill out room.

It was just what the doctor ordered. While I can’t guarantee weather like I experienced; I can guarantee you’ll have a lovely time.

Lastly I’d like to thank Mary & Louise for looking after and making me feel so very welcome.

I have a feeling they’ll be seeing me again very soon!

Until next time, Tracey x

When you first mentioned this spa a while ago I booked myself straight in for a manicure and pedicure. It was wonderful,so relaxing and the staff are lovely. I even came away with the nail polish they used and a free gift.
Ps It’s the first time I have actually fallen asleep in the chill out room.

They do a full range yes and not overly expensive. I was tempted to have a facial but plumped for a massage. It’s definitely worth a visit and it’s also up for an award – best new spa 🙂
