Whenever I start a beauty blog I always think back to something my mum once said and it makes me chuckle… “we aren’t all bloggers, we don’t have time to phaff or spend ages reading up on stuff we just want to know if it works!”

She does have a point I suppose … the average Jo [said in the nicest possible way] probably wouldn’t have a clue what a Squalane or a Matrixyl 3000 was. 

My mum if questioned would no doubt say a sci-fi film knowing how much I love them! Attack of the Squalane has a certain ring to it!

Lets be honest here even I didn’t know what some of the ingredient were, or what they did?

To save you the trouble I’ll break it down for you in lay-mans terms and no-doubt learn something myself along the way.

When I was younger dad used to tell me everything in ‘laymans terms’ I was an inquisitive child [one big question apparently ] but also didn’t take things in easily;  it was for the best that answers were related back to me as simply as possible.

That time I asked him what was semen was though [they found semen on her knickers ]…priceless *still cringing* I was swiftly redirected mums way.

Anyways back to the review.

I was kindly sent a bottle of Retinol Resurfacing Treatment to try before Christmas by the lovely ladies at Merumaya. It comes in a 30ml bottle with a pump dispenser top that will set you back £33.50

It’s main ingredient is Vitamin A which boosts cell renewal and smooths out wrinkles. It is great for scarring but can also be quite harsh, drying you up and leaving you with sore flaky skin.

I’ve experienced this for myself…

A few years ago and in desperation to ‘soften my pesky scars‘ I asked a friend to get me a tube while holidaying in Mexico.

You can’t buy high % Vitamin A cream over the counter in the UK; it’s prescribed by your doctor. In Mexico however it’s on sale in the supermarkets. Crazy.

To cut a long story short. I used far too much [stupidly thinking it would work quicker] only to be left with red, sore skin that started to peel and crack around my nose and mouth. I can remember sat at work with my head down so nobody would notice.  My skin getting tighter  and falling off throughout the day. The only way I can describe it was like having dandruff of the skin. Awful.

Merumaya have taken and used the highest dose of Vitamin A (Retinol) available in the UK. However as Retinol is unstable they have substituted it with Vitamin A Palmitate, a stabilised version with proven efficacy.

Aroleat Samphira is an incredible active ingredient extracted from Rock Samphire [also known as Sea Fennel] Basically it imitates the beneficial effects of Retinol, but without causing skin irritation. i.e non of the effects that I experienced above.

Matrixyl 3000 repairs skin and is particularly effective on deep wrinkles. Restores softness. Has a calming effect.

Squalane Supports and reinforces the skin’s natural moisture barrier leaving it feeling luxurious. It is an antioxidant, prevents UV damage and promotes cell growth .

In a nutshell all these ingredients combined together produce one hell of a superb treatment cream. I’ve been using it every night for a month now and the improvement in my skin is noticeable.

My skin feels beautifully soft and although I don’t have many wrinkles [thank you greasy skin] any fine lines are hardly visible.

No redness or irritation. Non / narda / zilch

My scarring is definitely softening and any redness [from previous blemishes] has faded.

It has the distinctive Merumaya scent which I personally find delicious.

Skin feels hydrated but not greasy. I’ve still had a few spots, but not so many.
